not sure where to put this thread but anyway

few of the lads at work are going for aqupunctre(the **** with the needles) to help them stop smoking. 25 euro for a session and there is a good chance one session will do it. im going for it next week just wondering if any1 else here done it or knows soneone who done it and how they got on. Im no sceptical im pretty sure it works i just think ill loose out on the willpower side.

friend of mine went to a hypnotist to go off the fags, so he locked her and nine more people into a room with a few packets of smokes each, a few softdrinks and snacks in a fridge, then he told them not to stop smoking until they absolutely positively couldn't have another fag,

after three and a half hours, she hasn't had a smoke since (that was 5 months ago) sounds like a good idea, but dont try it on your own i think it sounds kinda dangerous

How the **** did that work? I'd eat the snacks and smoke the fags (if i was a smoker) then i'd eat the contents of the fridge and probably sign up for the treatment again coz there might be some nice girls in that room too. I doubt i'd stop smoking though (if i was a smoker). :)

I have a friend who has done the alternative therapies stuff .. acupuncture and hypnosis worked for a while (the hypnotist had induced him to think that the fag would taste like human excrement) .. he was back smoking again after 6 - 7 months ...

Both he and I got off the fags finally by using nicorette lozenges ... they taste like polo mints and also have nicotine in them (ask any smoker to eat a few mints and then smoke ... its is really nasty, most smokers cant smoke for a while after a polo mint) ... I'm off the fags 1 and a half years (after smoking for 17 years) and me mate is off them for over a year...:D

My grandmother smoked all her life and tried to come off them so many times. She did the hypnosis thing and it worked for a couple of weeks but she was hitting 60 and just couldn't do it.

I think a lot of it had to do with willpower. She wanted to come off them but not badly enough!

My dad did it. He was smoking since he was 11 and quit when he hit 40. He just used the patches and hasn't had a cigar since! We're all dead proud of him!

I know it's a really hard thing to do and not having ever smoked myself, I can't imagine what it could be like to do it. I suppose it's a bit like living without chocolate(NEVER!).
Go for it and good luck!

    :)

na the hypnotherapy stuff isnt the greatest, a lot of them make you think that cigarettes smell and taste like human excrement alright but i havent heard that many success stories from people who have been hypnotised.... I would never be able to use patches and **** as the whole idea of trying to give up something addictive by continuing to take the addictive part of it doesnt seem right to me...... The only thing you really need is willpower and its something i dont really have.... but if i can get rid of the cravings i might be able to do the rest....

Cold turkey's the best way to go. Gave em up over a year ago now, used a bit of chewing gum and a lot of willpower, that's all you need.

Basically you have to really *want* to quit.

Oh ya, I did stay away from pubs for a few months, probably made things a little easier.
Well worth it cause I managed to lose weight too! :D

friends of mine seem to always talk about how much they want ot give up, usually just after lighting up.

everybody wants to give up on some level, personally i love smoking to bits but still want to give it up due to health, money, smell off my clothes, taste in my mouth etc.. issues, the problem is its a lot of effort to give up... i bet if most people had the option to give up as long as they had to put in a little effort as possible, they would give up... hence me going for the acupunctre method, the whole going cold turkey thing seems like a whole lotta effort tbh...
