The government has introduced into the Senate new legislation, the Broadcasting (Major Events Television Coverage) Bill 2003, which allows RTE, TV3, and TG4 to go to the High Court for an order directing a sports rights holder to allow them to show a sports event, if it is on Ireland's protected events list.

Does the Eurovision Song Contest classify as a major event?;)

I think I'll never see the ESC as a PPV event, its done through the EBU, the family of State broadcasters! :D:D

Interesting to see, that if the legislation is put through quickly, they are looking for RTE or TV3 to agree with Sky to show live the Ireland soccer internationals straight away. Albania in May is the first, IIRC.
