MovieDudes review : American Beauty (may contain spoilers!)

Movie Dude

American Beauty tells theh sotry of Lester burham (Kevin Spacy) a 40something tely-salesman who hates his job and eventually has a midlife crisis, leading to hilarious and sometimes shocking situations.

Lesters wife (annette benning) is a typical WASP character and his alonly daughter Gena (Tora Burch) is one of the new generation of 'whatever!' kids. Neither of them have any love or respect for Lester so hes is getting pretty tired with his whole life in generel.

Lester then starts fancying Geanys best friend (played by Meena Survarhi) and quits his job in order to impress her. He also starts working out, doing drugs and buys the pontiac motorcar that he's always wanted. This is an expensive lifestyle to finance so he gets a job working in McDonalds to pay his way.

Meanwhile the Fitz family move in next door to lester. The fater is an ex-army guy known as 'the corenal' who hates homosexuals and drug addicts. His son Ricky (yep you guessed it) is a homosexual and a drug addict ... but he hides it from daddy. Ricky is also a drug dealer so he makes friends with lester and starts selling him bags of skank for $1,000 a go. Thats a lot of overtime in mcDonalads!

Anyway, the corenal starts to suspects that Lester is gay so one night he goes over and 'tests him' by French kissing Lester and stroking his nude body. Lester tells him he has the 'wrong idea' so Corenal Fitz (delighted at the good news) goes back to his house. Lesters wife then comes in a shoots lester in the back of the head because she can't stand living with him anymore. She then proceeds to throw out all his old clothes.

The corenal comes back to the burham house later on and discovers Lesters dead body and is understanibly shocked. (Note we don't actually see this scene but it is implied through the blood on the corenals t-shirt.) Irregardless we know all is well with Lester (even though hes dead) by the trademark Spacy smirk left on Lesters dead body wich tells us that he has finally made peice with himself. Surely all we as individuals can ever hope for in ife?

Well I really didn't know what to make of this film! Was it a comedy of a tragigy? Either way I don't think it deserved 'best film' at the Baftas tho is certainly worth a look if your a fan of tragidy and comedy. The music by Randy newman is the highlights of the movie for me and certainly helps to develop a dark tone in the movie.

No, he isn't. He's straight (and in love with Lester's daughter), and he's a recreational user of cannabis (and not an 'addict').

Well I really didn't know what to make of this film! Was it a comedy of a tragigy? Either way I don't think it deserved 'best film' at the Baftas tho is certainly worth a look if your a fan of tragidy and comedy.

In all honesty Cat if he is doing his best and it is that poor then he could use any constructive criticism that he can get. Like, use a funking dictionary for a start...

It's actually a pretty good troll though one wonders why he considers it worth the obvious effort.

Look Ive said it before and Ill say it again learn to spell. Spelling all the words wrong isnt funny it just makes you out to be a bit of a handicap. Whatever you do, dont give up your day job and pursue a career in journalism.
