My brother just got himself an Nokia7650 prepaid jobby and wants to configure it so it'll send and receive e-mail. Is it possible to do this with a prepaid Speakeasy phone? Anyone got any help on this?

he can use GPRS (he will pay for each KB of data sent/received) or a dial-up (he will pay for each second he is online)

can you ask him to check his 7650 to see what Access Points set up?

Menu > Tools > Settings > Connection > Access Points

Can you list out what is set-up there?

If there are no "Internet" (not WAP) connections then he needs to call 1740 and ask to be set up for the GPRS pre-pay internet access point (it's called pp.internet), he can also ask to get the 14.4k dial-up to be set-up

they should be able to talk him through the configuration, or you can ask again in here and someone can post them up

make sure you give it back ;)

ok sounds like thy might have just set up WAP and MMS

can you select the o2 Prepaid GPRS item (highlight it and push the joystick in once), the third item down says Access Pont Name, is it pp.wap.o2.ie (or something different)?

just press Back (the button to the right of the joystick) to leave the config withough changing anything

Rang up o2 support, they told me it wasn't possible to send e-mail using a prepaid phone. Strange because after much fiddling around i sent some e-mail using my phone. Clueless i tell ye.

Thanks for the help guys, you can lock/delete this now.

hi - not sure which number you called, if it was regular support they (like Vodafone) sometimes don't know what data products they have and what they can do - regular support is more suited to account queries and the like.

i've been emailing and browsing away on a SpeakEasy account for months - so it is possible - sometimes it depends on getting through to the right person a their end

if you ask him to try 1740 (the Internet and WAP support number) tomorrow from his handset - and ask them to enable the pp.internet Pre-Pay GPRS access point - he will be able to use this to email and use any other internet (non WAP) app on his phone (like Instant Messenger, Web Browsing etc.)

he could also set up a dial-up ISP and use that, although that could prove expensive (and 086 to landline on prepay), there is an O2 dial-up ISP which involves calling an 086 number that would work out cheaper. Get him to ask them about enabling 14.4k CSD and the 086 dial-up settings.

    HTH,
    BrianG
