: : As far as I am concerned, if you don't show up with your team, the
: : other team doesn't have to drop members just because your members
    : : didn't show.

: : As I said in GI news, if we all came along with that attitude, we'd
    : : be having 2 on 2 clan games.

: : Having said that, the smaller teams can win - Fenians did it against
: : Phoenix and we did it against CS - just get organised you sad whining
    : : hamstards.

    : : John.
    : : --

: True but wouldn't a bit of common decency be nice eh John?
    : FFS Sportsmanship etc. ?

    That's not fair Overlord,
for you to come along and say Sportsmanship.
It was up to GI to decide(with no pressure on them)
and you should not be expecting them to drop a player
for what ever reason that you did not turn up.

It was only 1 game so i am sure GI will seeya in the next round.

: Well Beast turned up late for the CW-Vortex match and sportingly refused to join in as it would've just been silly. But I was looking forward to the GI nD game. I dare say we would have left a man off or try postpone the game for a few hours if we were in the same circumstances.

I would really prefer if all teams fielded as many players as possible. This
would be a great incentive for teams to actually turn up - as it stands at
the moment theres bugger all chance of full teams turning up and people just arent
taking turning up for their games seriously. Believe it or not, us admins do not
particularly enjor turning up to admin games which then have to be rescheduled for
the next weekend. (Where were you Trojan, where were you?!!)

Believe me, common decency allowed us to
wait a half an hour until nD got their
team together, we were still waiting for
their fifth member SideShow Bob and no-one
really seemed to know for sure if he was
going to join in or not. As has happened
in previous games, the last few members
join in after the game has started - must
account for this too, can't go dropping
players like that and have them coming back
in when the other team fill their ranks.

In an ordinary clan game perhaps we could
have dropped a player, but in this league
where teams are turning up 2 and 3 players
short we must at least try and play teams
    with the full compliment.

If a team doesn't have all it's members, well
then they will remember for next time, it's
    as simple as that.

I'm dissappointed that you think I am not a
sporting person, I have always tried to make
games as even as possible but when you have
another team not showing up in full to play
    then what can you do.

    Cry I suppose.

Well I see it like this - all teams were notified
of the levels to be played at the same time.

All teams got an e-mail saying where to get the
    level.

All teams had an equal amount of time to
    practice.

Why the f*$k should we wait around for a few
MORE hours until the other team has gotten
themselves together when you've spent a week
or two practising and getting your players
together on IRC for the match at a specific
    time.

This postponing and rescheduling crack was
grand for the first few weeks when teams were
clueless about setting their name in Quake,
but at this stage there is no excuse.

There is sportsmanship, and then there is being
    taken for a ride.

No they don't. I went on war1 the other night and two tossers told me to leave because they were having a dm! I wanted to get the ukcl maps up and get some people in to learn them. I had to bugger off. You've all the time in the world to practcie when you've got a LAN handy but not if you're a modem muppet that can only play for an hour or two a day.

Why the f*$k should we have to spend more of our time learning MORE levels when everyone already knows the original levels that are perfect for dm Elder God Shrine, Palace Of Hate, Hells Atrium etc. No one likes the ukcl levels. They might do when they've had more time to learn them but not now.

Thank you for your comments Cat Anonymous.
Since you deem yourself worthy to call me
by my first name, I suggest you allow me
the same pleasure (or shall I just call you
by your first initial, C. :-P).

I can't apologise enough for the lamers who
told you to bugger off while they were
having their DM. I don't know what else
you expect me to do here, draw up a time-
table of who is allowed to practice on
certain servers at certain times is it?

You should have brought along a few of your
buddies and hammered them until they got
tired of being whopped around the place.

Realistically what I can do is set the
war1 server to run the level for the
following week ALL the time, and allow
no warping, no exiting, samelevel 1 all
    the way.

No-one likes these levels? A lot of people
do, a lot of people don't as far as I can
see. Search for servers running ukcldm levels
in QW (there are some you know). Explore them
on your own at home. Watch demos of other
games on them - search the web for ukcldm2
    tips - that's what I do!

Okay I have set up the server at
war1.quake.ie to run the UKCLDM levels
for next week - basically, it cycles
through UKCLDM2 and UKCLDM4 as games
    are played on it.

The settings on this server are
identical to those used in the IQCL -
if you think the timelimit should be
    changed or whatever for practice
    purposes, send a message here.

I have disabled warp and elections
so that lamers won't be having their
own free for alls on the server.

Those levels are excellent...we should be producing levels of our own anyway kiddies, not stealing the UK league levels...

PS...Wasn't LEPRECON a blast??? Many thanx to the hard working boys, girls and MUPPETS who made it possible
It was great fun being destroyed 30 - 0 by Bunny in the second round of the 1-on-1's

I reckon the "turn up" rule makes perfect sense. Plus, they're rules and are the same for everybody. When we play, we have to send a couple of the lads into a cybercafe to play. In the nD slaughter (yez were lucky, we were just gettin started!! ;-)), I drove a few of the lads to Galway especially. If the other team are short, they can't be told "you can't play coz the other team couldn't be ar*ed turning up on time." - it's not fair!

Anyway, ye can't claim that ye lost the GI game due to being a man short. Everyone saw the game at Leprechaun (faith and begorrah), and it was obvious ye didn't know the level, and that it was tactics that beat ye. Ye wouldn't have been able to use the extra man effectively, and might even have lost by more (more people for the GI's to kill). There's no doubt you're a savage Overlord, but do you think that there's the slimmest chance that you might have turned that particular game? The concensus in the crowd at Leprecon was "not a hope".

Well, there's my tuppence worth anyway.

My apologies for not showing up, although I was scheduled
to play [was at a ball that mornin]. I think we have a classic
example here of what can go wrong when a league is scheduled and I
suppose the only solution is for both teams to field all members ane to
select the team from who turns up to play.

You just don't need to field a full team when you're playing muppets.
Like I was gonna get out of bed after getting back from work at
5 in the morning to play the fupping Blood Angels.
I'll just be staying in bed thank you very much.....
