Internet connection becoming standard for new apartments

    In japan..
An increasing number of new apartment buildings are wired for Internet connection.

An owner of an apartment building in Takahara, Okinawa City, that was completed last October said he decided to equip all nine apartments in the building with LAN cables and connect them with NTT lease line. He charges his tenants a flat fee of ¥3,000 per month for the Internet connection, and says that all his tenants are very happy because the arrangement allows them an unlimited access to the Internet.

A representative of a housing agency says it is the time to add extra value to apartments in order to attract tenants. “It won’t surprise me even if all new apartments from now on will have the Internet connection,” he said. “In the future, like water and electricity, the Internet access will be considered a standard necessity even in Okinawa,” he added.

Currently, Okinawa has are smallest percentage of its people of all Japan using the Internet.

now this article was from may 2001 - nearly two years old,

even though japan is usually well ahead technolgy wise,
this will be a common thing in the future everywhere you go,

i mean if people can get cable hooked up in a new place why not the net too?

hell, net acesss can dictate where people want to live, for some it's an essential part of their work as well as play :p

the ¥3,000 works out at just €24 a month :)

you can get more info on ntt here

This is pretty common in "Scandi" land too.
