    PRESS RELEASE

    Forthcoming DGI Events and Projects

    DGI SOCIAL
We at the guild have been working very hard the last few months and we are
very pleased to announce our first event for designers. And its free!
Here is your chance to hang out and chinwag/ gripe/ network with your peers
and for us to launch the dgi salary survey.

The social follows the Paper Workshop earlier in the evening and provides a
good opportunity to discuss what was seen and learnt with those involved.

To help us raise money for future events there will be a raffle and spot
prizes of a design nature as well as *guaranteed fun.

    WORKSHOPS
For our first workshop event we have decided to invite the paper company
Antalis along to show the possibilities available when designing for print.
Paper stocks, what type of printing suits, pricing, finishing. As well as
that we will have a selection of the best examples of design that use paper
    to its fullest.
    More details to be confirmed.

    SALARY SURVEY
Launching online on the 6th of March is the dgi Salary Survey. The results
of this survey should provide us with crucial information of interest to
designers in all areas of the industry.

It will hopefully provide a useful and accurate benchmark in salary levels
and billing rates, show growth areas in the design industry and highlight
salary differences in different business sectors and regional differences.
It will also highlight common benefits and salary packaging and provide
employers and employees with effective methods of gaining employment.

Your participation in this Salary Survey should provide important answers to
    questions such as:
How much should an entry-level designer earn?
    Is paying over-time normal practice?
W hat is the outlook for business growth for 2003?
Any information submitted to the survey will be completely anonymous and
    confidential.

The Designers Guild of Ireland .
A non-profit organization working for Designers and Irish Design.

The Designers Guild of Ireland is a network of like minded designers from
    across the design industry.
Inspired and informed by the community spirit evident in such forums as
Creative Ireland we hope to establish an organisation which will offer
representation and practical services on an individual level for designers.

    Our aims are.
To facilitate the advancement of the design profession and design in
    Ireland.
To provide designers with the tools and information to take control of their
    professional lives.
To establish fair and productive working relationships between designers,
    their clients and their employers.

We are currently in development stage and plan to spend the next couple of
months building an organisation that will be as efficient and as accessible
as possible. If you are interested in helping shape the DGI you can join our

    cool

is Dgi a kind of continuation from dearadh figment??

    looks like a nice idea

Kind of. Dearadh wasnt really taking off and i was figuring the time needed to make it work and realised that if i was to do that it was just a small step to bring it to the next level and be a true representing body of design.
    So the DGI was born.

We have some really good and dedicated people involved and it looks like its going places :)
