Has anyone heard of this offer, a guy at college told me you could ring this number and they will give you a free meteor sim card and you can have any 085 number u want for example 0851111111 if its available, he also sais they give you 10 euro free cred a month aslong as you top up with 20 euro every month.

Anyone know anything about this?

I heard this on the radio too. Basically they give you the SIM free and €100 worth of calls. Though the ad I heard didn't mention the monthly thing. The idea is you use your exising phone. Its to convince you to switch to Metor from the other networks.

Anyone with Metor like to comment on their coverage? Good bad etc?

My own impression is that its only worth while if you don't use your phone a lot, don't use outside of Dublin much, and if you don't ring other networks that much. Any one care to comment/correct me on that?

I've been with Meteor a year and a half. Coverage is much poorer than other networks, but if you don't use your phone much like me, it works out much cheaper. I wouldn't change. They do some good deals. I'm getting a new SL45 off them tonight for €100.

using meteor since before christmas. Full reception in kildare and dublin where i use it.

I got it cos of the promotion they had which started last novemeber which basically is if you top up by €20 you have free txts 24/7 to 085's and free calls to 085s from 10pm-7am( for a month) and since most of my friends also swited i don't even use the twenty quid so its gonna be there for the promtion ends (end of may) which is just fantastic cos i used to spend at least ten a week. Think i'll try get the extra sim card too with the credit, won't have to pay for any for a while :D

Do you have to give them your old sim and

I rang them about a year ago enquiring about this and they said the €100 free credit is given as follows:
`You` top up your phone with €10 each month for 10 months, and each time you top up, they credit you with an extra €10.

Can't reg any name you want..

Just tried to reg 085-7883368 as in 085-STUDENT

    no can do the bástards.

You have to already have the number from another operator.

    > You can keep your existing mobile phone number, except change the prefix to 085 (If you wish that is). E.g. My existing number is 08x 8563210, it then changes to 085 8563210.

    > If You Top up by €20 in one month, you recieve a free €10 top up at the start of the next month. This runs for 10 months. (€10 * 10 months = €100 ) The ad wasn't very clear on this to be honest

    > Coverage wise... I'm with them since may and haven't had any trouble at all. Couldnt get coverage in some parts of Mayo, but I'm up in Dublin most of the time anyway where the reception is perfect.

The ad is very misleading... They shouldn't be saying €100 free credit.. they should say "buy €200 credit and get €100 credit free over the space of 10 months"

i had meteor up until about 2 months ago and reception was good in places like Waterford, Cork, Dublin but useless everywhere else i used it so i opted for O2 instead, much happier with them

Surely they don't demand your current SimCard do they? So there's nothing to lose by taking up the offer, just to try the service?

Any free cred at the start? Could do with some right about now...

I've had a Meteor phone for the last 6 months and I have to say that its been excellant so far. I used to have a Vodafone, but I havent really noticed any drop in service with Meteor.

One thing that I do like about Meteor is their web service. They offer free text messages to any other network (Vodafone used to only allow free messages to other 087 phones). And also show you for call history over the web.

Meteor are grand as long as you don't venture too far from the populated areas! Crystal clear along all the national roads and they have a cool "ring me" service that lets you send a message to any network!
