I've just installed windows xp home edition on this compaq presario 700. XP detected the sound card but I can play any sound. I've tried external speakers and no, it's not on mute!
I'm downloading the latest drivers for the sound card now. I wondering if that is the right move?

Of course its teh right move.. XP probably just detected a standard type of soundcard and installed basic drivers.. your chip probably needs more specialised versions of those drivers...Win ME is always doing that too!

Just make sure you specify when updating the drivers and dont let XP look itself
