I'm looking to start learning the bass and was wondering what the best guitar for me would be. I don't really want to spend above €400, so any advice would be great.

Sound Gear (SG) by Ibanez make some great basses at a reasonable price. You can also find some good cheap Fenders made in Mexico or Korea.

Good instrument choice mate, bass kicks ass

What type of stuff do you want to learn? different stlyes suit different music better. im sure i can recomend one or two if you let me know what you are into.
Dont go near a Squire Bass anyway. first tip :)

Once a friend of mine lent me a Squire and I must say it wasn't *that* bad. Of course it didn't sound like a Musicman but it was alright for the money.

However with €400 you can get much better bass

i got a bass, p - bass copy, and a 30 watt amp when i started for 250 from dude on buy and sell. its a sh!t piece but to this day it has a beautiful sound. the amp has died though. i struck lucky though, it is a really well made yoke. my advice would be dont go for a cheapo though, i recon its worth it in the long run. and it does depend on the genre of music you intend to play.

nice choice of instrument, she cant be beat.
