How far will reality TV go?

Having just watched The Truman Show. it got me thinking how far will reality TV go?

I mean we have so much reality tv its replacing good TV shows by the second, in my opinion i am sick of all of this Pop Idol crap and the rest, like lets leave people deserted in on an island and see how far we push them. What happens if some actually dies on one of these shows, i shudder to think.

What is the next step? Will we see the likes of EDTV and The Truman Show become more than just movies.

Its scary but all you need is American TV network to put enough money on the table and some daft yank will sign up for it. I bet even the idea has been discussed just because there is a film on the subject.

I dont think we are that far yet,but how long is it away?

I think TV channels are getting desperate and it will happen soon.

So people how far away are from EDTV becoming reality TV?

I'm waiting for apocolyptic "death games" were humans duel each other to the death for credits.

I heard somewhere that CNN are planning on placing mini-cams on Iraqi civilians, just in case they happen to be a little too close (say 100km) to military targets during the Gulf War II. The advertising bods have come up with a killer slogan..."Watch those babies burn!"

On a serious note, TV networks will continue to milk reality tv until it stops making money, plain and simple. Morals, ethics, whatever, none of them will matter, as long as the 30 second ad breaks keep the moolah coming in. Remember, we are all partly to blame, they don't invent the viewing figures for Big Brother...

I was going to say "think of whatever you would love to see and know you couldn't because there is no way in hell that it would be shown" and that is how far it will go. But then I thought - "why the feck would anyone actually think about wanting to watch people in a 'salon' when at home on their sofa." So I got confused.

I guess there will be more
    -Making mockery of people
    -Watching romances blossom
-Sex (still not shown in the mainstream yet)
    -Talent findings
    -Major gambling

Jeez, the day reality shows start showing people posting on boards is the day I throw my telly out of the window.

    Why wait until then?

I've just thought of a new one. A reality TV show which...wait for it...shows people watching reality TV.

    A sure fire winner.

i hope it goes very very far away and never comes back.

celebrity daredevil live, **** off, that was the most civil thing i could think of saying about that show.

i have a boring enough life without having to watch spanners getting their hair cut by ridculously camp men who "aren't gay". i dont want to watch dumb blond bimbos called jade, i dont care about celebrities being left in a jungle to be visited by ant and dec once a day.

why not get real writers and do something intelligent instead of putting "real people" who's egos far outweigh their puny little bodies, abilities and talent on tv to rot our minds?

    rant mode OFF

"We watched Lee Harvey Oswald get shot live on TV one Sunday morning, we were afraid to change the ****ing channel for the next thirty years" - Denis Leary.

Point being, reality TV won't be extinguished until someone has succeeded in showing us a live premeditated murder for pure 'entertainment' (ie not some government justified execution) on prime-time tv.

It's like a beheading in the 1500's except you don't have to leave your home to watch it!
