    A hard mount is when the user process is suspended until the request is fulfilled. biggrin.gif If the server crashes, the client will keep trying to contact it.

    A soft mount returns failure after a small number of retries. tongue.gif If server crashes, it tries the maximum number of times, and then returns an error.

    Table of Potential Mounts!! - probes all of these, and the first to respond is mounted (w00p) using the normal mount function. The file system is unmounted when it has been unused for a specified time, typically five minutes. It is possible to replicate in this way wink.gif
