The Simpsons is not as good as it once was but to immeadiately dismiss it as dead is ridicilous.About a month ago possibly one of the worst episodes of all time was shown,in which the simpsons go on a reality tv show house.
But last Sunday one of the best in ages was shown, where the family went to Florida to see Mrs Krabappel accept a teacher of the year award.Funny stuff.
Honestly, most of the people who are dismissing it as dead and buried havnt even watched it in years-didnt Pigman actually admit this in another thread? How can you know it is still terrible if you gave up watching it years ago?
And these so called fans drafting up lists of greatest episodes ever have not a clue. The entertainment weekly list said that the woeful ep where Homer becomes a union leader was the best ever. The fact that the episode where Homer founded his own religion,as well as the sanitation commisioner episode, were omitted from the list show that the person who compiled it hadnt a clue about the show.
Just because a so called expert compiles a list of greatest episodes with nothing from the last few years doesnt mean the show has gone into decline. From my experience it shows that the person compiling the list is an idiot.

Get your facts right. I said I finally gave up watching it only 2 MONTHS ago. I said it's been bad for 5 YEARS. I make that around 100+ mostly bad episodes that I've watched in the meantime ... which should be enough of a survey for even you (it certainly was enough for me!). So I wouldn't presume to talk about something I hadn't informed myself on.

The simpsons started off unfunny(remember when bart was the focus), reached peaks of genius, then finished unfunny(about 5 years ago). I think the death knoll was at the end of one series when homer was previewing clips of the next season saying "yeah we promise this will be the last series". I mean for **** sake they knew it was **** but were going to show it anyway because they knew people would still watch it.

The only good recent episode in my opinion was where homer was taking"medicinal" marajhuana(prob spelt wrong)... it was fckin hilarious

the simpsons have used up most decent pg stories this one had to be shown by sky at around 10 because of its content and because it was a one off most episodes continue to be at a poor standard.

Family guy which does not follow pg guidlines(and therefore is cut to bits by sky) seems to have endless classic storylines and for me has taken the simpsons place

I'm not sure how old it is, but Sky showed the episode where Springfield legalises gambling tonight. The scene where Homer encounters the Rainman/Dustin Hoffman character had me rolling in the aisles.

Tonights ep was abysmal painfully unfunny, christ I've seen better Dastard and Mutley eps. I decided to give it a go but there was only one good joke The Rob Schneider gag.

I liked the bit with Barbers Adaggio for Strings after the punchup in Moes. But yeah, it was very unfunny.

Do the writers and performers not review the scripts before they're made?

In the old days most likely but now it prob gets the approval of 5 year olds.

Agreed, brutal episode tonight. The only LOL line was Otto and his pot smoking.Like a few recent episodes good angles and scenes wasted by bad writing(Ranier Wolfcastles porno days could have been elaborated on to humourous effect but didnt).
I was expecting good things after last weeks very good episode. It leads me to conclude that the old writing team only do half the new episodes, leaving a shower of gobsh1tes to write the other half.
My theory anyway.I think this as I refuse to believe Matt Groening,Brooks and the other old lot would let such awful plots end up on paper.

Pay Conan to come back (whatever he wants!). Just get him back, and let the Simpsons go out on a high.

I thought groening and brooks were pretty much out of the loop now?

Yep, you can pretty much blame Mike Scully and Ian Maxtone Graham (<-what a stupid ****ing name btw) for the current output afaik.

i thought the bit where "all those years of tetris" was pretty good aswell, certainly had me laughing :p

I thought the Tetris joke was great too.

I think those writers are still pretty good. they managed to make an episode about about Marge than wasn't full of cloying morality.

I think the Simpsons is doing just fine. I liked the episodes from the first 3 series but ones from later seasons have really grown on me.

Those top tens are full of sentimental crap too. Maggies First Word keeps appearing in most popular polls and it wan't funny at all.

The bottom line is I'd much rather sit down and watch an average episode of the simpsons than anything else on TV today.

as the comic book guy would say, "Worst episode ever". The one where marge gains muscle is the first (and I hope the last) to make me cringe so bad I really wanted to turn it over. But I didn't. Because I thought it couldn't get worse. I was wrong. For most of the episode I kept cringing and thinking to myself "FFS, come on, WTF?".

Dire, absolutely fcuking dire. It should never have made it past the storyboard.

I've been watching it (not fervently) for years and always found it a good watch. But that episode let me down sooo bad :(

BTW, what was with the dialogue synchronisation? I thought it was only that bad for the first series or two?

I will tune in next week, in the hope that that episode will compensate for the rubbish that was last weeks...

    It is what it's.

I have to disagree i taught sundays epsiode was a big improvement from previous weeks, the bar room brawl was excellent very funny. ;)

Simpsons is the greatest American comedy show ever but in my eyes the show ended on 18 June 1997 when the last episode of Season 8 aired in the States, the one where Bart and Lisa go to military school (have a book with all the episodes up to the end of season eight) ... then all the writers left to do King of the Hill and the Simpsons went to sh"t ...

if only Sky would show more of the classic season 3 and 4 episodes ... Flaming Moes or the one where the Germans take over the power plant ... one word ... "classic"

i'm shocked that in all these top ten lists no-one has mentioned the one with hank scorpio! 'SUPER VILLAIN SEIZES EAST COAST"
    .

    a winning performance.

IMO, simpsons is boring now becuase they've run out of ideas and all the new episodes are full of old clips.
