USING BROADBAND WILL HELP CUT COSTS
UK firms appreciate the benefits of fast web access but want better service, says the IoD.

"But, despite saving money, only a small percentage of those using
broadband feel that current offerings meet their needs. Of the 63 per
cent of SMEs now working online, only 10 per cent are satisfied with
    their current bandwidth provision.

More than one in three believe that there is a need for more education
about the benefits that broadband delivers; more than two-thirds
believe that geographical coverage needs to improve for wider adoption
of the technology; and 48 per cent think that the government should
provide more grants to facilitate take-up.

Perhaps not surprisingly, e-commerce minister Stephen Timms was keen
to throw a positive spin on the findings. "It is great to see British
businesses taking advantage of the opportunities broadband offers, and
it is getting clearer by the day that broadband Britain is really
    taking off," he enthused.

Timms suggested that the IoD's statistics support evidence from Oftel
last week that there is much greater awareness of broadband and its
    benefits.

Although he conceded that there is still a long way to go, Timms is
bullish that the UK is well on the way to creating a highly
competitive broadband market providing UK businesses with choice and
    value for money."

again ireland looks so far behind we can't even see the competition especially in business thinking
