Could someone explain what the point is of having a station (Belfield FM) which broadcasts for something like 4 weeks a year? I doubt that it would get very much of a listenership if it's only on for that amount of time.

Well (speaking for DIT) it's run for that short period by the journalism students and it's an excercise in research, production, and presentation. Radio is a module throughout a number of years and it's assessed like the other modules.

The BCI award plenty of temporary licences throughout the year, not just to ccampus stations but to festival radio, radio to cover specific events etc. It's not an unusual practice! And hopefully people would tune in for the novelty, if it is in only broadcasting for such a short period of time, y'know?
