I was just wondering what people preferred....

    1) The low-rent but classy british timelord

    OR

    2) The FX-laden yank space-'em-up with Face from the A-Team ?

    ;)

Which do YOU prefer? 47 votes

Both were before my time, and so I've only watched them in the last few years.

For me, BSG is the clear winner.

Battlestar Galactica of course! They had a cool looking spaceship, Dirk Benedict and Cylons (but no Garfunkel)!

Dr.Who is just a piece of cheap boring tat that seems to only be watched by obsessive 'sci-fi only' geeks (probably the exact same people who like Red Dwarf.)

Eh, it wasn't 'nicked'. Both shows were by the same guy (Glen Larson AFAIK?) so he was basically just making a signature out of his own creation.

The two progs have nothing in commen but I voted Dr Who as what it lacked in money it made up for in ideas. BG was just expensive cardboard junk.

Battlestar Galactica for me. Its on this week on sky one:) Dr.Who well in my opinion what it lacked in money it made up for with good looking lady companions (except Bonnie Langford...the mutant) but often let itself down by with gimps like that Turlough guy

Was never much of a fan of Dr Who, although Davros was a bit of a laugh.
Battlestar Galactica was class. A million times better than poxy Star Wars anyway

Wheren't they meant to make a new or remake of Battlestar Galactica the movie?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,621 ✭✭✭Panda

i thought i heard something a while back about a remake of the film aswell, if it does happen itll make millions and millions imo.

battlestar galactica, thought that was a great show,
tbh tho i never watched dr who, it was so **** looking i usually changed the channel.

Battlestar Galactica was one of my shows when I was a wee bairn. I've only started watching Dr Who more recently and like it (depending on the timelord TBH. I find one of the Bakers good but I don't know who is who (:D) if you get my drift.). There are a few crappy Galactica shows too IMHO.

Hmmm, divided, I'll think about it.

With regard to the movie, there's a trailer that Richard Hatch (Apollo) is hawking around conventions. He probably burned his credit rating forever making it and it's supposed to be pretty hot (I've not come across a copy of it online). That's as far as the movie project had gone last I heard. He certainly wants to make one, it's a matter of getting the funding.

In the meantime, after getting your fill of the BG movie tonight (or last night if you watched it then) and watching closely at the screen to see the box around all the vipers when they're on screen you can get your fill of Dr Who on UK Gold - about six hours every weekend (late) and repeats (early) as well.

Always thought Blakes 7 was about as good as British space stuff got. Other stuff from around the period that I can remember:

    Space 1999
    Logans Run
    Buck Rodgers

and worth a mention just for general weirdness
    Sapphire & Steel

i just saw this topic and had to post, bump it to the front page and get this poll fixed 37% of people think Dr.Who is better? i dont think so

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,488 ✭✭✭Goodshape

This poll was made before either of the new shows were out, so it's a bit unfair to start voting on it again now.

Never really watched old Dr. Who or old Battlestar Galactica, but both of the new shows are fantastic.

Look at the year on the thread... people are comparing old Doctor Who with old Battlestar Galactica and Doctor Who easily wins out in that battle.

But I'd rate new Battlestar much higher than the current Doctor Who series.

ye i didnt read the whole thread i thought it was comparing the new episodes

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,956 ✭✭✭✭MisterAnarchy

Old Doctor Who was very good the new series is childish drivel.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,082 ✭✭✭lostexpectation

ask this in the dr who board :P

see how many actually say dr who is better

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,084 ✭✭✭✭Stark

Of the old series: Doctor Who was way better than the Disco Galactica ****e.

Of the new series: Battlestar Galactica. Though they are very different shows. Battlestar Galactica is dark and grim, Doctor Who is fun, they complement each other nicely. It's a bit unfair to make a comparison.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,088 ✭✭✭✭_Kaiser_

Galactica (both generations) ftw... Dr Who is just terrible cheap rubbish imo.

Actually they had the same producer at the time he was nicking from his own shows!

Speaking of which there's a great episode of the A-Team with Dirk Benedict on a film lot and a Centurion walks past - hilarious!

That shot actually made it to the title sequence if I remember right.
