Game Fishing Report Dated May 29th, 2001
Very bright and warm weather for most of last week confined angling to late evening/dusk and also dawn periods. Daytime fishing was severely hampered with flat calm conditions and bright sunshine for much of the time. With angling restrictions lifted, we have now started to update the competition fixtures section of our website, for those interested. This can be viewed on webpage www.shannon-fishery-board.ie/game-events.htm

    Angling Highlights
Anglers concentrate on late evening fishing on Lough O'Flynn with quite good results for some, conditions much better at the time of writing.
Two specimen weight trout from the River Suck at Ballinasloe, photo next week
Salmon Fishing is in a lull period awaiting the grilse run
91 anglers returned 224 trout on Lough Sheelin, best fish for the week, 8lbs on a spent gnat.
Fishing slow on Lough Ennell but prospects much better as weather becomes more suitable and the Welshman’s button starts to hatch

Coarse & Pike Angling Report Dated May 29th, 2001

Temperatures recovered and it got very warm mid week with bright sunshine. As fish have almost completed spawning, shoals are tending to fragment, hence fishing was a little patchy at some venues. That said we did get reports of lots of action and very good fishing was reported from many of our hotspots around the region. Weather is forecast to continue quite warm but fresher than of late up to and over the June Bank Holiday weekend, so prospects are looking good. The advise is to concentrate angling effort early morning and late evening if weather is very bright and sunny. At the time of writing strong warm south westerly winds is upsetting angling at some open venues, particularly the lakes
