As of 00.27am this morning, the first draft of the IrelandOffline
organisation web site has been launched by yours truly at
    www.irelandoffline.com

The site currently contains a "forum" section, which is currently
powered by www.boards.ie (thanks again, to the Boards.ie crew for that
service). The intention is to have our own forum built and hosted by
ourselves in place of this existing system as soon as possible.

Also:- the Contact Us page will soon feature a "feedback form" where
web site users will be able to request more information or make
suggestions, and a "signup form" where people can register their
interest/support and get information on getting more involved. There
will also be a mailing list (yet to be added) which users can
    subscribe to.

While I'm not looking for major criticisms, any constructive comments
on the site and content suggestions would be most helpful.

    Thanks,

    Bard

I really like the idea of the site. Is there anything practical to be done?
I've listed it on http://www.irishsearch.net/ if that's of any help to you.

I've been following this campaign with interest as I'm one of the 2,000 who is being kicked off the Esat fusion service.

Great to see a grassroots organisation like this, and the site looks great. Keep us up to date about any help you need, etc.

Oh, and I should mention an article in today's Irish Times about the whole Esat Fusion debacle. It goes over all the main points:

    http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/computimes/2001/0521/ct1.htm

Perhaps someone should archive all these kinds of articles for future reference/ammunition? You could have a page with lists of links to articles that talk about the broadband situation (and lack of it) in Ireland.

Eh, can anyone explain to people what the hell these new committee people have been doing other than congratulating themselves on the beautification of a web site ??

It's about 10 days since the meeting and the IT devotes a whole article to it, mentioning numerous amateur efforts but NOT A SINGLE MENTION of Ireland Off Line !! Jeeesus Christ people, you had one guy who was worth all of ye put together and you spend the week prissying up your web site and MISS the IT !!! Is it any surprise the web designer was a main orchestrator of this mess !!

To correct you, there hasn't been much talk between the committee members
about the website apart from "well done, it's up ... now on to this..."

At the moment, a meeting is being arranged with Esat (most likely Mr.
Conlan-Trant himself), more functionality is being developed for the web
site, and... well... more - the major thing at the moment is the Esat
    meeting.

I believe the Irish Times are currently in contact with Elana Keogh with the
agenda of writing quite a hard-hitting article which should feature quite
prominently. Plenty of good PR coming soon.

We didn't spend a week "prissying up [our] web site". It took approximately
two days, was built by ONE person (me) and was launched relatively quietly.
While the upkeep of the web site will be an ongoing concern, the committee
have moved on to other matters.

As for being the "main orchestrator of this mess"... LOL!!! smile.gif There IS NO MESS! smile.gif
