    hi everyone,

all this week (27-31 August 2001) RTE 1 have a caption on-screen telling viewers that due to maintenance work there will be no programmes between 7am-11am. Does anyone know the specific reason for this?

All they have said about it is that they will be off the air between 7am a and 11 am every morning this week for "essential maintenance"... something to do with their transformers or something, not all that sure.

It appears to be work in the RTÉ studios rather than any transmitter work. RTÉ appear to be moving the whole continuity suite for the 2 channels to a new purpose built building in Montrose. This time off air is probably to allow for tests of the new equipment.

Network 2 will be off air for similar hours all next week.

As for doing this work during the night?
This is RTÉ, where unions are still to be feared by management. Remember, RTÉ doesn't have Brekkie Telly because of the unions :)

It would be much nicer if they went off the air for good.
Save me having to pay a TV licence fee every year for an organisation I cannot watch.

I got a bit of a fright this morning when i turned on Network 2.It said on the message that RTE was out of services due to technical difficulties or whatever. As i turned on RTE Radio News was just wrapping up a story. It ended with a line "measured 3.4 on the ricter scale".For a sec i thought Dublin was struck and it was bad enough to knock off RTE!
