    Well what do you think.
TV3 news is on the Ireland AM show and does provide Irish news when RTE television has none. It broadcasts News at 5.30pm and 6.30pm and also news late at night.
And the Agenda programme on weekends??? I think it is excellent and deserves much more acclaim.
    What do you think????

While it may not be as 'polished' as RTEs, it's certainly good to have an alternative to RTE. I like Grainne Seoige also. I also think many of RTEs newsreaders have been on air far too ong, and should be pensioned off, it's nice to see fresh faces on TV3. I think their opening credits could be revamped, that image of David Trimble is well played out, and the music is a bit dodgy. They do a good job, and their weather forecast was always slick.

RTÉ's weather forecast especially on Network 2 is brutal. who really cares what the weather is like on the Iberian Peninsula or over the Alps. maybe it is worth while during summer months when the majority of ppl go there. RTÉ 1 is obsessed with isobars and all that when all we need to know is if it will be raining or not, the temperature and the wind. i much prefer TV3's news although i find the presenters on RTÉ to be very good. Agenda is an excellent programme along with 20/20

Personally I find the news service very entertainment focussed and tabloid. It compares most closely to GMTV then any other news service. Same goes for 20/20 - too much taken from the ABC US programme of the same name. RTE News is simply far suprior.

Agenda however is a different kettle of fish - it's excellent, the best home-produced programme on TV3. I see both TV3 and Today FM are carving out a niche for themselves in this kind of public service output. Pity its not in a peak slot.

Always remember one thing with TV3-it does not cost us a penny to watch. rte and with their tv TAX, are fair game for any and every criticism as we have no option but to fund them, essentially on pain of imprisionment. Never is an original programme seen on "civil service" tv, they simply plagarise BBC and others. They are quite astonishingly shameless.
TV3 have done really well so far as it takes several years for a TV channel to devleope an identity etc.
Agenda is simply excellent; think what McWilliams & co. could do with the type of subsidy available to the "civil service" gang.
If only "maggie" mccreevy would the decent right wing thing and privatise rte...

No, completely disagree. If Agenda were an RTE programme, it would be in peaktime, not tucked away in a dead lunchtime slot.

Commercial broadcasting doesn't give us the range of programmes that RTE does for the licence fee. For every one Last Word there are ten Strawberry Alarm Clocks. For every one Agenda there are ten Jerry Springers or some other trashy American programmes. TV3's Irish output can be counted on one hand.

In other words: commercial broadcasting may have some quality gems, but for the most part, if we want Irish programming we have to go to RTE. ESPECIALLY for a surprior News service.

I asked the original question just to check the feedback.
I have to agree with the fact that RTE news is far superior to TV3. Yes the alternative is good to have. RTE appears to "Want" to do the news and TV3 only "Have to" do it, because of regulations by the IRTC.
People like Lorraine Keane should be given her own programme like Tanya briers on Sky news, just to take her away from the main serious news. I have to say that I am no big fan of RTE, in fact Network 2 should be privitased, but

lets be honest..If a National Emeregency occured, (God forbid) which station would you want your news from .....RTE or TV3....

Another Question....Since all my friends tell me that TV3 Sports coverage(like the UEFA league) is terrible...why dont TV3 just relay the ITV/OnDigital service which is better. After all TV3/ITV/OnDigital are all part or part owned by Granada.....So why not the relay?????

please no, ITV's Champions League coverage is terrible. TV3 is better in my opinion. if Manchester United's games were to fall on the same night as another English team who do ITV show, Manchester United. TV3 even it out

I dont have an interest in Soccer, but my friends who have Sky digital and do not receive UTV (But do receive TV3)will actually go a friends house or Pub to view the game on ITV as they say ITV has a better sports coverage than TV3.
maybe its just an excuse to go to the PUB <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Your right Mossy. The weather maps on rte are brutal. The map has got smaller due to the fact it now shows the edges of wales and scotland.

I think it's unfair to compare TV3 with RTÉ as RTÉ has been on air considerably longer than TV3 and thus have more experience. In fact, IMO, it's only in last few years that RTÉ have improved anyway. B4 that, their networks were atrocious. Plus the fact that RTÉ have more dosh at hand than TV3.

on another note, has anyone noticed the TV3 advert thanking its advertisers and viewers "without which, we wouldn't be here"?

    A little thanx is nice! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

I think TV3 news is better. That saying,I hardly ever watch the irish news anyway. All they talk about is the Northern troubles[well, before the f and m they did]and car accidents.Headline news would probably be made if Gerry Adams found a spider in the bath.

I think TV3's news output is great but on the weekends it lacks a bit with only one news programme @5.30 and 3/4 of the programme is sport. Why isn't there a weather presenter on Sat. and Sun.
