In todays apponitments section of the Independent.

RTÉ are advertising for "Head of Knowledge Channel".

    Quote:
"RTÉ is looking for a person to establish a National Knowledge Channel as one of Irelands new digital television services. The challenge is to find new ways of creating and delivering content that will open up learning oppurtunities for everyone.

The person appointed will develop and deliver a comprehensive schedule of programming and interactive content for formal education and for lifelong learning."

Sounds interesting to me. And interactive too. I wonder if they are planning a Learning Channel type setup or some kind of adult learning channel.

How do I set a laser printer to stun?

From what I hear, it will be somewhat superfically similar to BBC Knowledge, with a bit of BBC Learning Zone thrown in for good measure. The working title "Eolais" (Knowledge/Information) is a blatant clue. It may be similar to the RTE open learning slot which was on Network 2 mornings a few years back (before the N2 relaunch)

Interesting that they've waited till now to advertise this post, the post of head of the "Digital News, Sport, and Information Channel" (Ireland Today) was advertised months ago.
