ONdigital NI in the republic?

    Hi folks,

Here's something obvious that just occurred to me yet I haven't seen it mentioned before....is there anything to stop somebody buying an ondigital box in NI and bringing it to the republic to receive British FTA channels?

Assuming you can receive the analogue channels from the north in pretty good reception, wouldn't this work okay? (The idea of perfect reception rather than pretty good, really appeals to me)

All thoughts on the matter appreciated!

Before someone else mentions it - I mean to receive free-to-air channels *only*. Obviously if you try to subscribe to stuff from the south, questions might be asked...

i have relatives in Wicklow who receive FTA DTT transmissions from Wales although the picture isn't always great. it tends to break up quite a bit

    Hi Mossymonk,

That's interesting to hear...but do they receive with an ONdigital box? Or have they got one of those integrated TVs?

I would imagine it's possible coz u could do it with sky too if you wanted. all u need is NI address and NI bank a/c and you're flying!! A lot of hassle though for a few channels. According to many rumours, BBC, C4 and C5 will be available to watch on Irish SkyDigital from April 1st with ITV joining in summer. these are only rumours though but as i have SkyDigital I will not be long finding out <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Having on digital here in london with a good quality normal tv reception, the signal on digital is not perfect, so i doubt you would manage to get a picture from ireland.
