That is a bit of a pain. Do you know if you'll be able to buy them over the counter in the UK when they launch ???

Will Sky+ be worth getting? I can't see any advantage of Sky+ that warrants the costs.

Tony, you probably know more about this than I. I know the LNB has to be changed. But how many extra downleads will there be? The task may not be a simple one to try sticking extra co-axial down conduits in walls and I doubt if many people will like cables coming down the wall. Then again...

so, just buy the Tivo yourself.

    much better value.

I would not really want to give them any more money than they are already getting from me!

Would probably opt for the Tivo option - can a tivo box from the US be used over here? I know the subscription part is not currently available here - but the recorder would be worth having..

Hi Will, they are talking about supplying Quad output lnbs with this , i'm not sure why as a twin output with two downleads will do the trick.

A quad lnb will allow you to use the new Sky + box and keep your original box for use with a second TV. There is talk elsewhere on being able to get a second card which mirrors your first subscription for £12.

This makes sense although strictly speaking a quad outputs two h two vertical for use with multiswitches, i guess what they will supply is a twin by two so in theory you could run two Sky + boxes from this lnb.

What's the difference? I thought a Quad output LNB had four seperate outputs that were indivudal to each other, and was brought out to accomodate 22KHz tone switching for different bands?

Shane: Where is this talk of a second subscription for £12? Now that would make it worth it IMHO.

    £41 Sky World
    £10 Sky +
    £12 ShaneOC theory
£63 Two TV's with Sky World and Sky +

That looks like a good deal. Particularly for thise with kids!

    Mark.

I thought the Quad LNBs in question had individual H/V switching with each getting power from relevant receiver. AFAIK, the Sky+ needs 2 feeds - 1 for watching, 1 for recording. Then you can use a third one if you want to use your old ordinary digibox in another room with a mirror card.

Yes thats correct, the terms they use for lnbs are rather confusing perhaps i can try and explain. A twin output lnb has two separate outputs which provide both H/v and low/high band. A dual output has H low band and v low band. The original quad band had h low, h high, v low and vert h, what sky now call a quad is 4 independent outputs which provide h/v/low/high at every port so in theory you could run 4 receivers.

    Hope this helps
    Tony

Someone on Digital Spy has one of the new Sky+ setups. It has Philips LNB with 4 full outputs and adapters for the various dish manufacturers (mainly Triax in ROI)

The cable is like CT100 except with 2 feeds inside so it's a case of swapping cables.

The Sky+ box has S-Video out and Dolby Digital capabilities

Just had a meeting with the rep from Pace who has confirmed that Sky are holding up the launch in ROI for reasons unknown. Impressive demo though. To clear up the lnb thing it will now on be called a quattro as opposed to quad.

Ah an Audi LNB! smile.gif I think Quattro will be a better name for it than Quad. Definitely less confusing. Will other manufacturers also make Sky+ or will it just be Pace. Tony, were you using it? Is that Pace got a quicker processor than the 2500?

Just Pace as far as I know Will, the processor seems about the same speed for epg use but the pause feature was impressive and it records the datastream so no loss of quality. They curently have 20hrs recording time but this will increase on later models
