When you order a film through the digibox do you use the remote control to dial up? when the film comes through, does it tie up the phone line (as in Internet) or is it sent through the satilite?

When u want to order from Box Office, just ensure phoneline is connected and choose whatever film you want with the remote. Using boxoffice does not tie the phoneline.

As IB said the box only check's to see if there is a Dail Tone. Sky send a signal to you box about once a month for the box to phone back Sky to see what stuff you have ordered.

Does the phone line work in Ireland? Does it dial an Irish or a UK number?

I thought you were only able to use it in the UK.

Yes - it does work in Ireland. I have never figured out if it calls an Irish free fone number or if it calls the UK, but in the 16 months I have had a digibox connected to my phone line, I have never noticed an impact on my bill.

    Mark.

Any time I've gone to book a film I'm told I need to phone a number. Is this normal? I'd prefer to book through the remote.

The digibox in Ireland can only dial out for activating card and ordering SBO. It cannot dial out in any of the interactive services like Open...

A Dail tone? Surely that would only apply to members of the Irish Government?

Is this the reason why you have to leave your digibox on standby?

My box is never on Standby, it's on 24/7. If you mean unplugging the box, then u can if u want but as u say, sky can't get the box to dial out nor can it update stuff while it's off.
