I note from today's Radio Times that next Friday night (May 25th), BBC2 Wales (analogue) will carrying normal programming, but BBC2 Wales (Digital) will show the Welsh Cup Final live from 6.45 to 9pm.
I wonder if it's only a matter of time before NI programming will go this way.
    Interesting...

i would of thought that BBC 2 Wales analogue was the same as BBC2 Wales digital. shame really because i would of watched that on good old channel 61. BBC2 NI showed the Irish Cup Final live about 2 weeks ago (i think). was this carried on BBC 2 NI analogue. i'm sure it was

There will be variations on the digital versions of BBC TWO (Scot/Wal/Ni) every weeknight from the autumn. These will replace the BBC Choice Variations which were recently discontinued.

Some Welsh and N Irish football matches were shown on the respective versions of CHOICE in the past. Had CHOICE still been going, the welsh match would have been shown on it. As it was, it was shown on BBC TWO Wales Digital. I wonder if it will be seamless or will there be a "choice of viewing" type thing?

The current BBC ONE England does say before the regional news equivalent, UK Today, something to the effect of, "If you're viewing via digital, you'll receive a selection of news stories from across the UK. If you wish to receive your local news programme, press TV then button 1." I suspect something similiar will happen for differing programmes on analogue/digital BBC TWO.

On a similar note the match you mentioned, BBC TWO NI's Gaelic match coverage on Sunday evening last (the highlights) were blocked in England, Scotland and Wales on 966. Presumably the rights don't extend to certain programmes even in the UK...

Absolutely. BBC Scotland has rights to show some SPL matches live, but most can't be shown in the rest of the UK. One or two were shown in NI but not England & Wales.

Also, there was some strange rule in the past that BBC Scotland couldn't show the FA Cup Final if the Scottish Cup hadn't already been played.

I also remember once when Barry McGuigan was fighting in the Ulster Hall and it was shown on BBC 1 in GB but not in NI where we got the Flintstones.

The reason was that they didn't want to depress ticket sales by showing it locally on TV. Showing it in GB wouldn't have had as much effect on ticket sales.

We actually watched it on a dodgy BBC 1 Scotland picture if I recall...
