I have noticed that you can now select Q videos from Éire. Couldn't do this b4. The number is 1550 188 388. Nice to see em take notice of us!! Wonder if the other "interactive music" channels will follow suit? On another note, are Q and Kerrang! related? They seem to be

yes, they are related. The Box, Kiss, Q and Kerrang are all owned by EMAP

Didn't know The Box was one of EMAP's channels. I thought The Box was owned by MTV or some other network as it is in USA too.
Is there Fone Numbers for Éire for KISS, Box and Kerrang! just like Q? I haven't seen em.

there is a number for Irish viewers of The Box to ring. i don't know it but it comes up at the bottom of the screen every now and again. i think in the USA The Box was originally channel on its own. then MTV bought it and merged it with MTV2 or something like that. they only own the The Box brand name and logo's in the United States.
there is a good chance all i said above is wrong but that is my understanding of it

    You're perfectly right !

The box is certainly part of Emap in the UK (their site has "© Copyright 2001 Emap Digital - all rights reserved. ".

They also say that they are doing better in the ratings than MTV and VH-1 - hardly something they would do if their are owned by MTV. Though the name may be licenced from them.

Yup! Just been to Q4music.com and Box is also Emap. Seeing as both Q & Box have IRL fone nos then i assume Kerrang! has or will have an irish fone no.

    1550 188 188 The Box
    1550 188 288 Kiss
    1550 188 388 Q
    1550 188 488 Kerrang!?????

*sigh* I had to go to the trouble of registering today! Bit complex from EZ Boards side of things, I thought. I got the distinct impression they were planning to spam me! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Anyhoo, it's great to see Q add an Irish phone number. Last I checked, Kiss didn't either, so I am very impressed. I'd say it's only a matter of time until Kerrang! is added to the list, and most likely with a 488.

I spoke to someone at The Box last year about the use of "Ireland" over "Eire" and they said they'd look into it, but nothing changed since then. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but if a few more of us mailed 'em, we might have more luck in getting it changed. Certainly doesn't do anything to help the reduction of the use of the word among British people and companies.

Kiss does have a 1550 number as I stated above. I notice they don't mention the Irish No in the teletext with song listings where it should be.

"I spoke to someone at The Box last year about the use of 'Ireland' over 'Eire'"

How did the term 'Eire' come into common usage (to mean the Republic of Ireland)? Is it the fact that it is on coins, or what?

And isn't the term 'Ireland' a bit ambiguous as these days it can include or not include NI? Though I personally prefer "Ireland" , It's just a bit difficult to know "which Ireland" is being talked about sometimes.

Not wanting to get political here, I'm just curious.

"How did the term 'Eire' come into common usage (to mean the Republic of Ireland)? Is it the fact that it is on coins, or what?"

Partly. The rest is politican from the time when this country was officially called "Eire" and once it changed to "Republic of Ireland" many British politicans (Unionists in NI especially) stuck with "Eire" as a means of 'distancing' this part of the country from Northern Ireland.

"And isn't the term 'Ireland' a bit ambiguous as these days it can include or not include NI?"

No more so than "Eire" which in fact means the entire island! As far as I'm concerned, Ireland is the republic and Northern Ireland refers to itself. For The Box and others, ROI or Ireland would be preferable. Or instead of saying "Eire viewers call...", why not have "Irish viewers call..."

"Though I personally prefer "Ireland" , It's just a bit difficult to know "which Ireland" is being talked about sometimes."

Fair enough. I'm tending to use Ireland/ROI in filling out forms going to the UK to avoid that confusion in return post, but if you see Ireland generally, especially from a company, I would imagine it just means the republic.
