I spoke to Neil Prenderville this morning and he told me now that UTV own 60% of 96FM it is likely to start on Sky in the next few weeks. He said " They want me to be heard all over Ireland and the UK, I am so good that they think I could listeners from Chris Tarrent on Capital Radio London and from Chris Evans on Virgin Radio." He also said that UTV think he is one of the best broadcasters on these Islands ( UK & Ireland) and he was the main reason that UTV bought 96FM. So let's watch this space.

    Neil Who?
Sorry never heard of him. So UTV want a local irish Radio station on Sky...mmmm. It costs a lot of money to be included on the EPG, not including transponder space on Astra. Would it not be better for UTV to have its television services (UTV and UTV-2) on Sky for advertising revenue rather than a local based radio station.
I know that County media, have high JNLR ratings, but i would imagine that maybe if the Neil guy is as good as your quote was, why is he not known outside of Cork?? One would think that he would be on national radio to give him a higher profile.

arrgghhhhh ! I presume that message is a troll... Sky is full of rubbish at the best of times but at least its not objectionable... :-(

The reason he is not on national radio is he is tied up in a very complex contract. RTE wanted him to do the Who wants to me a millionaire show. 2FM wanted him to do the Gerry Ryan slot, Today FM wanted him to do the Dunphy Slot, and he was also aske to do the LATE LATE show. UTV have said that he will replace Gerry on there Late Late type show. All I can say the sonner he's gone from Cork the better!

Is it just me or does anyone else think Cork Boy *is* Neil Prenderville (whoever he is?!) and is touting himself up?!

I never heard his name mentioned in relation to *any* of those shows and doubt he was courted by any of the organisations listed. Gerry Kelly will be in his job for a long time to come and I cannot see UTV even thinking about a replacement yet.

My point was that it seems to be that UTV would be better of broadcasting its television stations than a rural radio station.
I have to agree with JC, the starter of this thread did post a glowing tribute to this Neil guy. Perhaps he may have just posted the direct quotes rather than a summary of the conversation. It does seem a bit OTT though.
Irish local radio would be most welcome on Sky. However the reason Radio caroline did not go on Sky was because it costs nine thousand pounds sterling alone to have them on the EPG. This does not include the actual transponder cost.
I do however admit that i do listen to some of the radio stations on Sky, Heart FM from London being one of them.

I'm from Cork and I can pretty reliably say that this a complete windup. Neil Prenderville is an absolutely awful morning talk show jockey, who tries to be a cross between Gay Byrne and Gerry Ryan. He is a real love him or hate him kind of guy. I think the "love him" camp is the 50+ housewife (as far as I can tell). Guess which camp I fall in to. I'd rather listen to screeching chalk on a blackboard.

    Mark.

Hey, I'm in Cork.... Neil Prendville is laughed at down here! As lots of people call him 'Prick' Prendville. If he goes on Sky Digital... he'll be the laugh of the universe!!!!

Don't worry - I don't think he will be. Cork's local radio just isn't important enough to be on Sky Digital at the moment.

But speaking of radio fools who think they're the bee's knees, Paul Claffey on Mid and North West Radio up here is another contender!

Aarrrggggghhh! Paul Claffey!! Isn't he terrible? I cannot listen to his show at all. The people who ring in are sometimes worse! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :smokin --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smokin.gif" ALT=":smokin" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smokin.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> Have to stick with G. Possibly the worst! His ego seems gigantic any time I've ever seen him in public.

Absolutely! One woman (who I read has since died) famously put a curse on a fellow listener who disagreed with her. Their Comment Line programme beggars belief - not even RTÉ's Live Line was people who complain as much about every single thing in existence than the bunch who call in to this programme!

Have to stick with G. Ryan and R. D'arcy for now!
Anyone but the locals will do me fine!

Dragging up old threads for no particular reason is shunned upon round these parts-thats what I think anyway.
