Connect Digibox to Phone-Line

I have tried to connect my box to the phone line for ordering Box-Office films but I can't seem to get it to work. I have changed settings through the installer's menu and still no success.

Am I missing something simple or is this just not possible from Ireland ? I know that Open does not apply here but I just want the option to switch on Box Office films without having to go through the hassle of ringing Sky.

Can anybody help ?

Hi, the phone connection should work for box office in Ireland perhaps there may be a fault.

You have to ask Sky to enable the phone connection. I have been ringing Sky since last September every time I wanted a film. Last week, the Sky person I was talking to aksed me if I had considered using the remote to order movies. I said that I thought it was not possible from the Republic, he said it was. I connected the digibox to the phone, he sent a signal down the satellite link to the digi-box, and I can now order from Sky Box office.

It makes ordering Playboy TV a lot easier! ;-)

Has anybody else found the Sky people EXCEPTIONALLY friendly and professional? They have to be the best customer service professionals I have ever spoken to. I suppose all I have to go on is that shower in Chorus.

Agreed to the comments about Sky Customer service being friendly and helpful.
As for Playboy ?? well I will pass a verdict when PlayGirl comes on air.

The fone line should work for ordering Sky Box Office. BUT, it will NOT work if you dont have a direct outside line when u lift the fone (ie some people have fones where u have to dial 0 or 9 for outside line). In this case u will have to ring Sky. There is an option to fix this but it doesn't work! As an installer i have tried many times!!

And i must agree with TP that Sky Customer Services staff are the most friendly people in the business!

Skys ppl may be friendly but some do have a reputation for lack of knowledge of the system.A woman working in customer care didnt know what an epg was according to someone on another forum!

Does Open ordering work? or just Sky Box Office?
Should I connect my phone line even though I never order movies?

We upgraded to Digtial and later added Disney to our package on the theory we would rent less Video Tapes. We ordered a couple of Box Office when we had analog. We don't rent any video tapes now, but have not felt the need to order any Box Office either in last 7 mths.
I have found the Sky folk very friendly. But not very Knowledgable! I complained about not having Ch5 since I have it on analog. She said that any one that picks up BBC / CH4 /C5 normally should have them on Sky Digital. I did say I was ringing from Republic! Eventually the penny dropped. A month or so later (hee hee) I rang (the Sc4 line) asking for SC4. It was several attempts and 3 days before they realised they couldn't enable it on an ROI Sky card! (I didn't think they could, but was curious to see ).
They also had a problem figuring out cost of Disney. They did find it hard to believe (as I did), that at the time the IR price = UK price in digits so we get it cheaper.

Regarding ordering from Open, to the best of my limited knowledge, we cannot order. As far as I can tell most (if not all) adverts on Open state somewhere that the service is available in the U.K. only.

Has anybody tried it?

I have tried and no, none of the Open... services work. Does it matter though? From what i can see, there is nothing great about it and UK ppl often complain about being charged to browse thru some of the services. I woulda liked the email service though. Maybe someday.

I ordered the Celtic game on Sky Box Office today (first time I have 'bought' an event from Sky). I did not need any phone line to my digibox, I was aked for my Sky Card number, and hey presto, it came on Channel 770. So I assume it would be same for PPV movies.
Intersetingly though, when I tried to order via the 'services' menu on the digibox, it stated that my 'mode' needed to be connected. Hmmm.
And in case you were on another planet, Celtic won, so it well worth the £7.95!

It definitely is. It doesn't help that installers don't mention why you might want the line in.

I know that Open does not apply here but I just want the option to switch on Box Office films without having to go through the hassle of ringing Sky.

I think you need your IPPV (Impulse Pay Per View) activated. You can call Sky to have this done once your line is in. It usually happens automatically, but some people need to have it done at Sky's end. Call and say you want to use the phone to order (cheaper callback call for starters) and ask them to make it possible.

As an installer, I have always told people why you would want a foneline connected although surprisingly, a lot of ppl said that they wouldnt bother with it and would rather fone sky instead.
