I am one of the many frustrated Chorus subscribers thinking of changing over to Sky Digital but I am hoping someone on this forum may answer a query I have.

If I change over what will I have to do to allow me to watch 2 different sky digital channels on different televisons .

    Thanks for any help

    Strettie

    Strettie,

Unfortunately the only way you can see different channels at the same time on Sky Digital at the moment is to have two receivers and either two dishes, two LNB's on one dish, or one dish with a dual-feed LNB. You'd have to pay full price for one of the receivers as Sky's offer is one free receiver per household and you'd have to pay a seperate subscription to see the channels you want (unless the very few free-to-air channels are the ones you want to see).

There has been talk for a long time about Sky bringing out one box that could supply two channels at the same time but there's still no sign. Another possibility is Sky's forthcoming Tivo/Digibox hybrid. This box would be able to show one channel while recording another onto it's hard disk, and there's even talk that it could receive 4 channels at once, however this has been put on the long finger by Sky, and even when it does become available it's unlikely that Sky will subsidise it. So you might be looking at paying £500 for it.

Not great news I'm afraid, but I hope it helps.

Does anyone know if the Remote Control Eye that allows you to use the remote control for the digibox, is available in Ireland? And if so where?

    Thanks

    Try Argos...they've got what you're looking for @ £50

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

The one in Argos is for any remote and is quite expensive. The one that sells in the UK for about £20 - £30 includes another Sky remote control and fits directly on to the Coaxial cable from the Rf out on the box. This is the one I am looking for.

    Thanks

    Tony,

Can you at least match the second remote part of the deal? I bought my dish from you (top notch service, folks - from phone call to installation and viewing - called Friday, viewing by Tuesday!) so maybe you'll give me a discount! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

Hi Dohie, thanks for the kind words flattery will get you everywhere. Unfortunately I cant get good volume supplies so am unable to discount. I think some body else has posted a cheaper supplier though maybe you could check them out. I'll work on trying to lower the price on these items.

    Regards Tony

Argos are charging a lotta money for a TVlink, are they not? Where I work, TVlink is IR£22.99 and is £39.99 with a second R/C. Maybe they're charging too little! Must get one myself but as I am sending my skydigital signal thru a distrubition amp to 4 TV's, I shall also need a TVlink By-Pass so that the IR signals and Powersupply can bypass the dist amp. More expense!!

    Well, clearly not! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

I'm in no great hurry, so maybe I can wait and buy it from the best! <g> Any word on the Pace/NDS "My Sky" box and when it will be made available, by the way?

Funny, though - when I bought my system back in the pre-free box days, we went through the whole no-UK terrestrials issue. Odd that it's taken so long to be put right (legally).

Hi Dohie, the nds hard drive box is ready to go but Sky have decided to hold it off until the autumn. the launch price looks expensive to me and I'm not sure if theres a market for this product given that a monthly subscription will be required. On the tv link price thing I've decided to sell the two together for IR£39 plus shipping. If we get good volume on this I should be able to hold this price in definitely so we'll see how it goes. One of the resaons I joined this forum was to find out ways of doing better business so thanks to everyone for their views.

I just got the TV-Link and 2nd remote from www.irelands-satellite.ie (thanks Tony). This is a must have if you use more the 1 TV for Sky. I fully recommend them.

I have an old subscription - almost 2 years old to Sky digital. I paid £300 for the digibox/installation and paid Sky a £50 as a new subscriber. However, I have been paying £29.99 for everything (Sky + sport + movies) and have the price guaranteed until September 2001. I have been using a TV-Link for the 2nd TV for about 3 months; before that it was shout into the other room!!

Now that BBC is here and the terrestrial Irish and ITV/C4 *might* appear, it is now time for me to start thinking about a 2nd digibox.

    Lot's of questions...

    1) Can I just fit a second LNB on my existing dish?
    2) Can I take advantage of the free digibox offer (I paid for the first one)
    3) Are there silver digiboxes? The e-decor in the 2nd room is silver and a black digibox will look crappy.
    4) Will the average installer be familiar with a 2 LNB scenario?
    5) Are Sky capable of dealing with a 2-subscription house? Like just one DD per month?
    6) Anyone done this before?

    Thanks,
    Mark.

    Hi Mark,
    Lot's of questions...

    1) Can I just fit a second LNB on my existing dish?
If its a min dish no, these will only fit on amm clamp such as an 80 cm dish (analogue) although I'm sure you could get a 60cm with the same clamp

    2) Can I take advantage of the free digibox offer (I paid for the first one)
    yes
    3) Are there silver digiboxes? The e-decor in the 2nd room is silver and a black digibox will look crappy.
The pace has a silver type finish and I think the panasonic does too
    4) Will the average installer be familiar with a 2 LNB scenario?
If hes a sky installer no but your local independent will
    5) Are Sky capable of dealing with a 2-subscription house? Like just one DD per month?
    I doubt it
    6) Anyone done this before?
yes I have installed this type of system they deduct two separate amounts from your account
    Regards Tony

"Can I take advantage of the free digibox offer (I paid for the first one)"

I'm not sure if you can. Certainly I don't think you can in the UK because even people who paid £200 for their boxes at the start got the "interactive discount" - from Open.... (then BiB) and this disqualifies them from getting it again. I'm not sure if they can get a box at a slightly reduced rate or not.

Since I don't think the interactive discount applies in Ireland this problem may not affect the Irish...

Sky are rumoured to be doing something about this. It is believed that you'll be able to run up to 4 seperate digiboxes and Sky will give a special rate or something with 4 cards. i read it in digitalspy forums somewhere and cannot remember all the details.

As for the free system offer, i think this only applies to newbies, not people with it already. That doesn't mean you cant have one though!! Rupert isn't going to come round to ur house to see if u've a minidish already!! <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :D --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif" ALT=":D" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/happy.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END-->

As Tony said, both Pace and Pannies are silver

I have also read in other forums, that if you apply for a second digibox, by stating that you are living in an apartment adjoining your house then you qualify. Give an address as 3A or 3B.
My present 12 month suscription with Sky expires in October, so i will probally do this, and start a new suscription with a new digibox then.
