Hi Guys, I'm afraid I cannot confirm the weekend launch date from my sky source, all he's saying is that the tests are on going and some issues are unresolved but at least something positive is happening.

I wonder is "the watcher" watching. I quote from his earlier post if i may (expletives deleted)

"All his posting's contradict each other. I for one wouldn’t believe day light from this guy. I guarantee you 110% that BBC will not be available in the ROI from next Monday or any Monday for that matter for a long long time.Because if you know as much about installing Sky as you think you know about BBC in Ireland , well I answered my own question with my last comment . "

I guess you did my friend

    Regards Tony

I still stand by what I said. No BBC for a long time yet in Ireland from Sky digital. At least not a full BBC service Reason being BBC don't have a DTH copyright for all of their programs (hence some channels clear and others not at the moment) I await a full apology from you on, lets say 2nd April and if the full BBC service 1& 2 do come on you can except an full apology from me. Remember I have nothing to gain if BBC does not come on. I hope they do I can then dump NTL. But under the present copyright they cant unless they can get this changed in the next week or so. THIS FORUM IS ONE OF THE BEST ON THE NET I look foward every night to when I get home from work (court) to reading the thread's

I would suggest that the "Watcher" reads his/her previous postings in this forum.
Bit of a change in your story???

BBC will definitely be on Irish Sky very soon. That is for certain. The only question is WHEN? It also seems we may have to do without knowledge,news24,choice as Sky don't wanna pay for them (see 2days ICDG news). No talk whatsoever about Channel 4 or C5 anymore. Looks like we will have 2 do without them for the time being.

aha ! Now we know - go check the calendar and see in what year March 23 falls on a Monday and that's when BBC is coming... <!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src="../www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif" ALT=":)" OLDREF="http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/images/emoticons/smile.gif"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> SO maybe Sky haven't being stringing us along they just forgot to mention the year !

I MENT THE 26TH OF MARCH AND ITS 2001

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Tony you started this thread on 13th March 2001 with the following.
"Hi Guys,I have been reliably informed by a Sky marketing source that BBC 1 and 2 Ni will "soft Launch" next Monday the 19th March. "

I still stand by with what I said "No BBC Monday or any other Monday for that matter" I changed this slightly to not a full BBC service. Big Tanya jumped on this like a ton of bricks. Well in fact a BBC service is already in place on Sky for the past 8 years with BBC programs being carried on UK Gold and BBC Parlement also. So once and for all let's stop spliting hairs. I will make a clear statement that I will stand by .
" THERE WILL BE NO FULL BBC SERVICE (1 & 2) AVAILABLE TO IRISH VIEWERS FROM SKY DIGITAL PLATFORM FOR MANY MONTHS EVEN YEARS TO COME"

    Dear 'Watcher',
while I have to respect Ronan's wishes to keep a civil tone on the forum, I think you need to justify you statment that BBC will not be available for many years to come on Sky Digital platform. You continually pontificate on this issue. If you have clear, hard facts on why it will not be available, let's hear them. I get the impression that you would be happy not to see the service come on stream, and then sit back and say 'told you so' to the many contributors to this forum. Do you have first-hand knowledge from Sky? Your comments certainly indicate that you are supremely confident on how this issue will develop. I also think Tanya was right with her comments.
Nobody wants this thread to develop into a 'he said - she said' situation, but I feel obliged to ask you to substantiate your claims with some feasible back-up information.

The fact's my friend lie in the copyright issue’s. I don't have anything to gain by BBC not appearing in Ireland on the Sky Platform. I would love to see BBC appearing but this CAN NOT happen at present. If you and others took the time to look in to the reasons why BBC can’t appear instead of spreading unfound speculation and mis-leading people , so much so that even shops around the country are now advertising false information

" BBC NOW ON SKY" Sound Store Cork.
" BBC starting Sunday" Aerial and Satellite Centre
" BBC this weekend" Flor Griffin’s Cork
    " BBC Monday" Clancys Limerick

and many more similar claims up and down the country. These different claims for so call Sky agents just prove no one knows. Just Rumours. As I have stated there is a chance of a limited BBC service soon, not the full BBC service.

Watcher, I hate to point out the bleeding obvious but BBC1, 2 etc. are already shown in Ireland by the cable channels. What's so different about Sky that makes it unlikely to happen?

Presumably if there were copyright or licencing issues they would affect cable as well?

As i often go back to ireland (in an area where you can't get english tv) from the uk. I brought my viewing card over to see if i could get any english channels. With my uk card i got channel 4 and channel 5 but no bbc channels or any movie or sport channels.

Like leesider, I too respect Ronan's request for this board to remain what it should be "Civil".
Also like Leesider, i feel that you should clarify certain issues.

You state that (Quote) "you enjoy this board and cant wait to view the threads each time you return home from work".(Unquote) Yet you fail to even register.

You have had a previous post "Edited" by ICDG, as your language was terrible.

You made personal attacks on another person who regulary contributes to this forum.

You stated that BBC would NOT be available on Sky Digital in Ireland.

You DID change your statment to saying that no full service would be available....(Quote).."Slightly Change"..(Unquote)

You stated that BBC programmes are available on UK Gold, and the point being?????

I think you should post on this board the "Hard facts" to back up your statments.

If u had brought over your digibox along with the card, you would have got all the channels you had in UK. The card is 'married' to the digibox is was registered with. When taken out and put into different digibox, you will only get the ordinary channels. Premium Channels (Sky Movies, Sky Sports, BBC) will be blocked on any other digibox except the one the card was activated with. As for us ROI's, it seems another date has been "announced" by retailers - Monday 26th. There also seems to be increasing speculation that the only BBC available is BBC1. Then BBC2ni a few weeks later whenever they launch it. Will we get BBC Choice/ BBC Knowledge when they are renamed BBC3 and BBC4? Hope so. Also C4 and C5? No talk of these channels anymore.

I got the attached from the uk.media.tv.sky forum. It does not mention who has confirmed it.

    BBC1 NI is unencrypted again.

Is anyone else out there disappointed that it seems we're going to be getting an inferior BBC service ? It reminds me of when I was a kid watching the Saturday morning shows on the British channels and not being able to enter the competitions - I feel a bit cheated.

If you took the time to read my last posting you would have read the "Hard Fact. COPYRIGHT"

A limted service means not all the programs

    Happy Now BIG Tanya
