Just to let you know that Channel Four are starting NEW film channels in the next few weeks.
F4E is "Film four extra" and is going to be a part of the Film Four services.
To launch these new services FilmFour are having a "free weekend" of viewing from April 7th and 8th.
The new spin off channels are:
Film Four
Film Four + (time shifted plus one hour)
FilmFour World (foreign films with subtitles)
FilmFour Extreme

So this F4E that you see in the clear without audio, is a test for a new FilmFour service. Nothing to do with the television station Channel 4

For those who want the frequencies for these stations check out the "Manually tuning the Decoder" thread where ShaneOC has kindly posted the list of the various BBC/Ch4/Ch5 stations.........

Yes. I've just seen BBC 1 in the clear. Unfortunately it's NI (I would have preferred the English version) but it's great all the same. It's still not on the EPG but it can be tuned in manually on the "Other Channels" section.

As yet there's no sign of BBC Digital Text.

I must say this looks very positive for a future launch of all the Beebs on Sky Digtal Ireland.

Just after posting the above thread, I checked BBC1 NI this afternoon at 04.55pm and it was ON>>>>>>>>>>
Only BBC1 NI, and NO other BBC or Ch4 services though....

It is great to have BBC1 in the clear, even if if does disappear every now and again!

I called the Aerial and Satellite Centre today, and they 'confirmed' that BBC1 and BBC2 will launch officially at the weekend, and will occupy EPG numbers 214 and 215. They also said C4/C5 and TV3(!!!) will be available sometime in May. (Ahem).

SoundStore in Cork are also running an ad campaign on 96FM. The ads are on at least every 30 minutes saying 'Sky Digital now available with BBC in Ireland - sign up today'. I rang and they said 'it will be available at the weekend'.

So today I heard a similar story from SoundStore, Aerial & Satellite Centre, Flor Griffin's and 96FM.
Are we about to put these rumours to rest finally??
What about my pint, Big Tanya??

Finally, the BBC in Ireland - if this isn't a concidental error by Sky/BT/BBC!

There'll be a site update about this tommorow.

I still won't be switching to Dsat until all Irish and UK channels are available AND more importantly, the multiple TV issue is sorted out, but it'll be nice to know that BBC will (probably) be there when I switch.

At last, a rumour that has truth in it. I must admit I had my doubts, but I'm glad I was wrong

I too found it strange that BBC1 would encrypt the local news from Northern ireland.
Seems odd. however I agree with Mossy Monk, it does appear that every second programme is encrypted.

When you get your card stick it in your box, ring BBC at the number given, give them the password (which your buddy gave) and they'll activate the card. Do note that it can take up to _24_ Hours and the card needs to be in the box during that time...

The SoundStore in Cork have said that BBC1, BBC2, BBC Choice, News 24 and Knowledge will all be available at the weekend. No EPG details at this point though.
We'll soon find out at the weekend!

I cant see them changing the EPG numbers that they already occupy in the UK. It would only make people confused.

Cant wait for News 24 on 507 to appear!!

i cannot see the same numbers being taken here. it is rumoured that RTÉ are in negotiations and someone here said TV3 could appear on Sky in May. i'd imagine 101 - 104 would be kept for the Irish terrestrials. what about BBC Parliament and the radio stations making it onto the Irish Sky EPG. that would be handy for Radio 2

So, BBC will be available from weekend? That sounds nice!! What day? Tis an awful shame that Channel4 aren't on the bandwagon. And, personally, I would prefer BBCni to BBCengland. I would also prefer EPG101&102 for BBC. Although, as long as they're on they'll join my Favourites List (for a while). It would b awful handy if RTÉ and TVthree joined too but terrestrial TV will always be necessary when u have more than 1 TV as ICDG pointed out earlier. Roll on W/E

copied off a UK forum

After months of Rumours, Sky Digital today began testing its BBC1 northern Ireland service to viewers in the Republic.
Although viewers of cable and mmds services in the Republic can view BBC1.BBC2,UTV,Ch4, this is the first time that Sky have made these BBC services available on Sky Digital.
It is expected that when testing is completed that the BBC stations will occupy EPG numbers in the 200's as EPG 101/102/103/104 will be reserved for RTE1/Net2/TV3/TG4 if current negotations with the Irish broadcasters are completed successfully.
Before any one cries "They dont pay a licence fee" not true. In fact viewers in the Republic who view BBC/UTV/Ch4 through cable systems and mmds, the broadcasters are paid a fee from the different broadcast platforms, and Sky is expected to follow with a hike in suscriptions to view channels in the Republic.

So sky may shoot up the subscription prices of their packages!! I wonder by how much? As far as I can make out on my contract, they won't hike the prices within 1st yr of sub. Altho they may in this case which i suppose is fairish. Maybe £18 Family Pack (or at worst £20) and £36-£40 Sky World. How much is cable subs per month and how many chans in comparison? Another thing struck me. When cable goes all-digital (DTT also), will it not b necessary for a settopbox for each TV like u would for Sky?? Altho there are a few DTTintegrated TVs but who has them?

If we do have to pay for the BBC channels I wonder how much it will be. I will be a bit miffed if its the full UK licence fee or more, considering that that pays for a bunch of other stuff we won't be getting.
