a 1959 Ferrari 250 GT SWB California.
Here
Only a run of 100 were made. Extremely rare and probably the best looking open-top Ferrari ever made, I've never seen a picture do the car justice, have to see it in the flesh smile.gif

Modernday stuff.. Caterham R500, Porsche Carerra GT (if they ever build it, phoar) or a Ferrari 360 Spider... seen all those at the London Motor Show last year .. guy at the Caterham stand eventually let me into the R500 after a twenty minute discussion smile.gif

damnit... just posted my opinions on the DeLorean on the Car thread in Films...
hate repeating myself, but its really more relevant to this board anyway than Films smile.gif

shipping company I worked with during the summer were shipping a proper Delorean (not the hollow shell jobs you see around) one day.. horrible sound off the engine, car is rusting everywhere due to its stainless steel bodywork, dodgy sliding windows didnt work so water was leaking in when it rained, absolutely crummy interior (even for the 80s).
Thats why they stopped making them. Because they sucked smile.gif

Money being no object id buy a learjet, but for my dream car i would have to say the Viper GTS

• Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Kali, the car ye were shipping was probably not well looked after. if their kept well, they can be as good as new even for cars 20 years old.

Is it the GT2 you're talking about? 200mph+ supercar and no traction control. You'd need surgury to move your ears further apart to accomadate your smile. biggrin.gif

For me it'd have to be the Ferrari 360 Modena and I keep swinging between the spyder and the coupe. There's so many gorgeous Ferrari's it's hard to choose but I just love this one. The work that went into the thing is unbeliveable and it wouldn't feel 'engineered' like a Porsche.

I wouldn't go for the 550 Maranello though. It's sorta supposed to compete with the likes of the Diablo VT in the super-supercar stakes, but Ferrari wouldn't do something so crass as compete. There's a new 'fastest car in the world' every year so instead Ferrari made a nice car instead of just going for performance. Every now and again though they do release a really fast car so I'd wait for that to come along.

Or you could buy both F40 and F50, and eventually the F60 when it's out (maybe thats the one you are waiting for).

Personally, I'll settle for a McLaren F1 road car (fastest roadcar on the planet). Also the most expensive, at a nice STG£695,000 last time I heard! smile.gif

That's exactly what I'm talking about smile.gif The McClaren isn't the fastest anymore. Some new Lamborgini or something is. They're always trying to trump one another

Didn't know anything about that... smile.gif

But the McLaren did have the record for a lot longer than one year tbf, more like 4 or so...

If I could afford the petrol, a new M5 would do the biz nicely...

But, in reality, the roads here are sh!te anyways.

How come the Americans have

a) the best roads,
b) crap cars, and
c) stupid 55mph speed limits

??

I found that annoying... smile.gif

There's some state like Montana or North Dakota or something where there's no speed limit. The place is so big, the roads are so straight and there's so little people there's no point smile.gif

a) Not true, in fact their roads are pretty shoddy in places

b)Obviously a camaro SS has never smoked you from the lights

c)While their speed limits are ridiculously low, they do speed up in places, highways in the city are 60mph, outside the city its fair game (as long as you dont get caught wink.gif)

And blitz is right in those rural states such as montana, parts of arizona, new mexico etc. speed limits are "as conditions allow"

Can't stand Camaros myself, ugly horrible cars, early 90s Firebirds and Corvettes are lovely though.

I think when he said "crap cars" he meant crap taste, crap handling, crap styling and crap wheels (silver alloys *shudder*) smile.gif

With the exception of the Viper and (possibly) the new 2000 Corvette, every review I've read for American sports cars paint them to be hilariously incompetent when it comes to holding to the road, due to their weight and low revving cos of some huge 4 litre V8 that only pumps out 4,500rpm, compare that to a S2000 or similar proper sports engine, which will touch 9000 if your mad, and probably destroy any mid-range american pose-mobile around a track smile.gif

I drove 6,480 miles (LA to Washington DC, via Vegas NV, Grand Canyon AZ, New Mexico, Texas, Texas, Texas (argh, let us out!), NOLA (coolest city on the planet), through varies confed states, Florida, Kentucky, Tenessee, Virginia, etc. You get the picture.

I did not see any road that was even semi-travelled that was describable as "shoddy"! Maybe you're talking about some of the dodginess caused by roadworks in the cities... smile.gif

I know what you mean, but I mean *decent* cars as in good looking, good performance without needing a 14 litre engine etc. See Clarkesons review of Corvette (involves desert, helicopter & Gattling guns! smile.gif

65 was the highest legal limit we saw anywhere on our trip. We stuck to in round 70 most places

(ok, so we did 110 in New Mexico, but it was a straight road for 400 miles for god sake!)
Still nervous of the cops though!

There is one state, in the mid-west that actually does have no limit, cant remember which one it is.

We were driving a Buick Regal LS 3.2L v6 (auto of course). It accelerated us out of trouble on one occasion when we were crossing junction and someone jumped lights (doing 60 or 70), close one.

Cool trip smile.gif

*sigh* looks like I have to explain myself better.
Yes, from the looks of things 95% of your driving was done on interstates and highways, once outside the cities they're fine but inside they are always under repair. Same goes for the main roads, the americans are worse (well just as bad then smile.gif) than the Irish for digging up roads and not fixing them properly

Dont get me wrong, Id take a fast european car (mmmmmmmmmmmmm porsche) over an american sports car any day of the week. But ever see a new TA (5.7L V-8 with ram air induction)? Stunning looking machine. Performance wise, what do you expect? Fast: check, good handling: check(ish), beast sound :check, check, check. You say 14L engine like its a bad thing biggrin.gif. Granted their big block engines are still pushrod, 2 valves per C
