I work for myself for the last few years ..... selling pc's and blah blah blah... More than once a week I seem to always have an issue with Eircomnet, Internet Connections and so ....
    This weeks episode,
I noticed my connection in the house was slow, rand 1901 to report the error and all i got was a smart arse on the other end telling me sorry sir but we only garuntee voice and not data over your line, I tried to tell him this problem only started when they upgraded the lines around my area with new digital boxes.... he wouldn't listen ... luckily enough I have a mobile number for the head guy in the mullingar branch... rang him, he sent out a tech straight away and fixed something in the local exchange.. I now have excellent speeds.... My problem is that the ammount of people out there that dont know much about computers modems and their internet connection haven't a chance.... And I'm sick of it...In most cases when i sell a pc, I'll set it up at home, set up an internet connection, test it to make sure it works fine.. pack the pc back in the box, head off to the customer, setup the pc,,, give them a demo of the internet.. 5 times out of 10, I'll find the internet isn't working properly in their house... I then have to try explain that the pc is ok and its their phone line... while i try always to get the person i sold the pc too to ring eircom and report the problem, i usually get a message back from them that eircom wouldn't listen to them... this is when i ring, couple of hours of shouting and explaining my self over and over again to a different person all the time usually gets the problem sorted .... my customer with the new pc now has their phone line fixed aswell.... now who the fcuk pays me for the 2 hours i just spent on the phone to eircom?
Nobody! Anyone any ideas what to do about this problem?
I'll listen to all suggestion ...

Here's something that just happened me about an hour ago...
I'm having a look at a neighbours scanner in my office,,,, I'm missing the lead so i call up to his house, go to his pc to grab the lead and low and behold he has an isdn line... Jaysus i didn't know you had isdn.. yeah eircom rang me a few months ago and reccomended it to me ... So where's your isdn modem ? My what ? Your isnd card or modem? he was never told he had to get any extras..... How can this be fair?
This is the 3rd time I've seen this happen.........
To me, thats like selling a car without the engine...
There must be hundreds of people in Ireland in the same situation.....

He might just stick his modem into the analogue port on the network terminating unit. It will give a fairly solid connection I understand. It is ever so slightly odd though to not install a TA.

Remember that the Minister of Communications , no less, was your local TD, Senator Mary

Mary knows which wires to pull in Eircom if you know my meaning (I am banned from the Humour board)

If you were in Tullamore or over near Athlone it would be even worse with the big MW transmitters.

Search the Boards here for mentions of Pairgain or DACS Or Splitter , the problem is nationwide.

By the way, these gizmos are illegal since April 2002 if you have a line installed especially for the Internet and Eircom know it.

Attribute the blame where it belongs. Eircom.net has nothing whatever to do with crappy phone lines, DACS, pairgain, 1901, digital boxes, or the hard-sell on "High Speed". That's all just plain old Eircom.

eircom.net has nothing to do with eircom, sorry but that has to be a paradox in itself..
