Well in fairness they are trying to promote a product that doesn't actually exist yet. As it mentions on that site, people will hold off buying games, etc if they think X-Box is coming soon (which it isn't).

Standard MS practise. Claim they are making the same product as a potential competitor and everyone holds off buying and waits and waits for MS.

Although Sony shot themselves in the foot by not supplying enough PS2 to stores in the US.

As are Sony - this letter is one thing, Sony reps going around shops in the USA pulling down Xbox signs and posters and threatening to cut supplies of all PSone/PS2 related tat to them if they continue to promote it is another thing entirely...

This is the problem, people who really don't know enough about hardware to make an informed comment say "oh it's a PC". If you actually knew anything about software development or hardware you'd understand how silly that statement is.

I think the fact that microsoft have managed to get ppl yammering on about their machine when theres absolutely no real details about anything running on it bar a few shots of munch's yoke is hilarious.

I just read a final year paper on a webpage from i link i was sent , it was a multimedia essay from a computer applications student on the state of the various current or coming consoles.
He waffled on about the various machines and they're pro's and con's , came to the xbox , had little or no info ( as most do, as there's none to be had ) and then in the conclusion decided that the Xbox was the obvious ultimate champion , as most of the muppets seem to be doing

I do agree that the level of hype this far in advance is a bit silly - that said, we knew far less about PS2 this far in advance and it didn't stop folk jumping up and down about it. We've seen actual gameplay vids of Xbox stuff, we know the exact specs, we've got a good idea as to the price and launch titles, and personally I've seen stuff running on near-final devkits and been very impressed indeed.

That said, I finally found reasons to own a PS2 this week - Zone of Enders is top stuff, and the MGS2 demo, while just being "more MGS with better graphics" is still utterly amazing. Onimusha doesn't really live up to the hype sadly, it's good fun but could do with not being all blatantly prerendered rubbish...

It still looks like Darth Vaders Toaster tho.

Im sorry but the majority of ppl that will be considering buying that console/pc are not Hardware or software specialists..
Pc games market in trouble.. it always has been.. what do you do..? Turn the pc gaming aspect into a console.. So you can up sale with stupid titles that morans buy..ala tomb raider & ALL the fifas etc etc

Yeah , i 'always' got to the manufacturer of a console to get a completely unbiased opinion :P

For a start, they're still changing bits and pieces, hard drives etc, nothing that important for development purposes.
Secondly, for the games i have seen running on it , nothing has looked particularily **** your pants cool and most of it is either demo's of the hardware of really really really early shots of the games.

When i can actually get a look even at a movie of a fully finished/beta game running i'll see what the story is, until then i'll stick to the very small bit of actual info that there is about the game, and one little bit i found quite nice was that namco said they would develop for the machine......but only after they saw how it did on the japanese market. Thank you namco , screw you microsoft

Onimusha rocked , I will not hear a bad word said about that game. The only thing wrong with the game was that It was too short. But everything about he game just oozed pure gameplay.

Now with it having a definate console to consistantly develop for I wait anxiously the sequal and a much longer game.
