Can anybody recommend any decent metal riffs? I love Metallica (Most of their stuff) and have recently started to listen to a bit of Pantera (Cowboys from Hell especially) and was wondering if there were any other bands/songs that I might like along those lines? Cheers.

You got to listen to AC/DCs Can i sit next to you girl. The opening riff is excellent and then Malcome takes over the riff while Angus does his solo. Mkaes the top of my list everytime.
Black Sabbath are the masters of riffs thoughs.

I have to say I'm not a fan of metal all that much but I really liked Korn's "Here To Stay", the intro and drumming, me like!

At the gates's "world of lies" and Pantera's "Clash with reality" and "The sleep". Both brilliant. Korn? KOrn?! KORn?! KORN!!??

Raining Blood has imo the coolest riff in it, (well its not really a riff but)...

just after "awaiting the hour of reprisal / your time slips away "

the rythm and lead parts merge togther, its so fukin deadly

cant think of anything else too tired goodnight

I dont think you could ever fault At The Gates...

Jesus, you could name 50 of their songs that'd go down as "Best" in polls, and opinions.

    I'd say:

    Blinded By Fear
    The Swarm
    Slaughter Of The Soul

Pantera and Black Sabbath are the masters of riff writing.

    My top 20 favourites are...
    1) Pantera - Walk (one of the catchiest riffs ever, and I still haven't got sick of hearing it)
    2) Pantera - Cowboys From Hell (Damn good)
    3) Pantera - Drag The Waters
    4) Black Sabbath - Iron Man
    5) Black Sabbath - Paranoid
    6) Black Sabbath - NIB
    7) Iced Earth - Dracula (the fast part)
    8) In Flames - Episode 666
    9) Slayer - Postmortem
    10) Morbid Angel - Where The Slime Live
    11) Ozzy Osbourne - Bark At The Moon
    12) Metallica - Creeping Death
    13) Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
    14) Led Zeppelin - Black Dog
    15) In Flames - Embody The Invisable
    16) Sepultura - Inner Self
    17) Sepultura - Refuse / Resist
    18) Superjoint Ritual - Oblivious Maximus
    19) Down - Stone The Crow
    20) Soundgarden - Outshined

    Pantera - Domination
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
    Metallica - Master of Puppets

Pantera - Art of Shredding ... The intro is really cool, especially the riff after dimebags' guitar scream.

Have you listened to any of the following?

    Slayer

    Suicidal Tendencies

    Testament

If you live in Dublin tune into Phantom FM 91.6(eastside) or 88.1(westside) (or check out www.phantomfm.com) on Thursday nights at 9pm(I think). Ray McGowan broadcasts the weekly Metal show, you might hear something you will like.

you gotta hear the belly of the beast by anthrax and wanderlust by nightwish.
wanderlust is the most amazing riff that i have ever heard.
anthrax's riff just sounds damn good.
