would it be better to start off just getting a metal zone or sumthin liek that? or should i go straight for the boss gt series?
cos the liklihood is that ill upgrade to a boss at some point neway, so shuld i save for the big one first, or start off small then work up?

You could get the best so you have everything and it'll probably sound better (duh). But if you buy mt-2 metal zone (which I have) you'll save money and there is a brill sound from it. A little feedback but good.

What effects do you actully need ?
I hate seeing guitar players with loads of pedals or huge elaborate pedals they barely use.Put the cash towards a new amp or something, lots now come with built in digital effects.

    "A little feedback but good."
Thats not to do with that pedal specifically, thats your setup, wether it be your guitar, your amp, that pedal ,another pedal or a combination of them all. What the **** is the problem with feedback anyway..I use it all the time in tunes,go listen to the Master of feedback control and creativity Jimi Hendrix, stop ****ing moaning about, learn to use it.

I dunno,I wouldnt get a Metalzone pedal either, every mother****er under the suns seems to have them, but hey thats me.

    Best of luck..

Do not get a Metalzone. If your going to upgrade anyway, you may aswell get straight to the good stuff!

For Distortion I would recommend a Boss DS-1. There surprisingly crispeh! :)

Yeah I have noticed Mt-2's to be a favourite of people who like Distortion, but have no concept of tone. Way to fuzzy for my liking. I let my pickups do most of the work when it comes to distortion, as mine are shit hot.

I tryed it on other amps before and it's still a fuzzy feedback. What?! Who cares about my opinion any fúckin way!?

WTF? Face it dude! You get what you pay for! It's cheap for a reason!

    130 euro's cheap!!!!???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,975 ✭✭✭Oeneus

Believe it or not...YES! It's an expensive hobby!

Look! Here's how to deal with feedback! Control it with you volume knob on the guitar! For example! Have it on full when your actually playing it, and turn it down during moments of silence! You never usually have to turn it right down to eliminate feedback, but it's a matter of learning! You'll get the idea through practice!

    Yip yip. I see.

the problem is that i might not use all the effects, and if i dont get better, and i give the thing up, ive wasted a ****load of money, admitadley boss kicks ass, and metal zone does have pretty ****ty tone, but the metal as stated is the main choice, it didnt get established for no good reason, its fuzzy but alot of people like it. anyway, i dont have very much money for either right now, ill need a new guitar too hmmmmmm, too much money needed, ah well, loads of work comin up for me then:D

Get the GT-6. I have one, and the depth it has added to my playing is astounding. I can set it up to sound exactly like any freakin song I like!

btw it has a Metal Zone in it, and a Big Muff Pi, and a ProCo Rat, and a Tube Screamer, and...... (You get the idea!)
Add to that the arse load of amps, wahs, and other effects plus it has a massive patch memory and it becomes plain to see that it kicks rectum.:D

I bought an effects pedal to gain an expeirence of effects and it was worth it.
But for buying seperate effects pedals it all depends on what you like.
I think all you would need is
    Overdrive / Dist
    Chorus (its deadly)
A noise Reduction thingy (if u can get/need one)
    Maybe reverb or wah

On my effects pedal theres loads of "cool" effects that are fun to play with but i'd never dream of using any of them on stage.
I think the most i've used at once is 3, drive, chorus, pitchshifter
Let your other equipment do the rest, all them knobs on the amp do stuff

Try and find some one whos upgrading/selling their stuff you can useualy get a good deal on a bag o pedals.

As for amp modellers, my effects pedal has a few built in and u can make your own, but i hear
the Line 6 POD XT is the best one,
or the cheaper Line 6 AM4 which i'd like better because its got 4 foot switches on it with all the Line 6 amp modeller stuff which would make it easy to use on stage.

Alternativly try the Behringer V-amp 2, same as the POD but it apparently comes with 2 stomp boxes and an expression pedal.

Did i mention u can update these things from the internet with the latest artists amp settings.

I should just turn into a walking ad.

Pod Line 6 kicks ****ing ass.
Mind you,Id rather be putting it into a P.A. than through an amp
great tone out of it,I aint got to try it with the pedal etc,but I have the actual unit here, and the tone is kick ass..get one !

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,975 ✭✭✭Oeneus

Ask the internet. HE might give you some price ideas. I think http://www.guitar-mania.com sell some. Check them out.

is there a site that tells you the defenition of all these effects, i mean like amp modellers and chorus and stuff i mean i know most (dist, flange, phaser, reverb etc)

SuperConor, the Total Guitar Forum could be useful to you at this juncture! http://forum.intermusic.com/viewforum.php?f=4&sid=65477e31fd36ae777d85159aa06a62f2
The GT-6 cost me €660! Worth every penny though. The AC/DC adaptor with rectifier comes with it too. It also makes a very handy recording tool since it can sound like all the amps you'd ever need even when hooked directly into the mixing desk. Christ it even has a digital output if you fancy recording on your PC!! Need I continue? I think not.

POD XT is about €500 euros on www.thomann.de and kicks ass.

    Boss GT-6 is good too.

If that's too dear, I'm sure you can get a pre-owned POD v2.0 (the previous model) which is *very* good for about €100/150

I have the Bass POD and I'm 100% happy with that.

Pricy eh? I'll work it up.

    Sounds pretty kick ass!

that means the boss costs more than my amp did  well, i want to get a new guitar in the summer, because all i have now is a squire strat, so i'll spend most of my money on a new guitar, and jst get a distortion and a flange thingy, that should do me to start i reckon, or what about a zoom? how much would they be?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 389 ✭✭Morello

Well you better invest in a good guitar first as no pedal will give you a kick ass sound with a Squire, then get a good distortion.

Are you sure you want a flanger? Personally I feckin' hate it! :)

About Zoom, they're good for reverbers, delays and stuff but distorsions sound quite fake, a boss pedal it's much better.

    Good shopping :) A.

I forgot, this is a cheap version of the POD, it's not as good but it's *very* cheap (€166)

I would try it first though....
