I have set up a trial hub, am going to leave it running for about a fortnight, depending on usage. Might not be too popular with many peoples uploads limited to 128k but we will se how it goes. No limits on sharing or slots yet!.
Join and check it out and pls no hacking.

Just an update, already there are 28 registered users and over 30gig of data has been exchanged in 1 day.

So if you haven't heard of or checked it out, go to #dub-hub on quakenet get a username and pw and connect.

39 of the 44 registered users have already logged on. Now a upload limiter is available alot more people are leaving it connected 24/7.

There will be a change of ip though when i get my static, will be broadcast as a mass message on dc++ and also in #dub-hub.

With such a surge in requests for usernames and passwords a reboot might have to take place to increase the max no of people allowed on the hub.
I thought i would be safe setting it to 60.

Will let all know if a reboot/ip change is coming. Will definitely be one when eircom get their fingers out of their asses and give me my static ip.

I've noticed a fair few people connecting for short amounts of time with always on connections. Really, there is no need to "go offline" for the night if you have adsl/cable, and with the upload limiter available, there are few activities that you would need to exit the client for. This hub is great, but it could be even better if people with always on conns used them as always on conns.

I'm going to try and get dctc running on our server and see if i can connect to it.

I'm a total noob when it comes to Direct Connect, ahvent' ahd a chance to use it.

I have it so the hub isnt registered. People shouldn't be able to search for it. Will look into it.

Mine should be on most work hours - but at night the PC is way too loud to leave on, and if I'm playing a game I always close down other connections.

In any case I connected yesterday and all of a sudden my wireless connect has dropped for no reason, hopefully will have it back during the week.

After a hub transfer between myself and Balmark it was open to unregistered users for a while.
We had to transfer it to increase the number of users who could log on, and also install some scripts.
Username and Password is required now and always will. We want to keep it to people we know.

If you're downloading a file and you get disconnected or the hub goes down, you still download the current file

Down at the moment. Still have not received any word from Eircom on a static ip regardless of my approx 16 calls i have made to them.

If anybody would like to host pm me on irc, Does not use any bandwidth. around 7mb per week.

Have you considered using a DNS name from a service like
DynDNS? There's no need for a static IP address in many cases.

http://www.no-ip.com/ it still offers a free service, there are a number of other ones out there as well.

I haven't used it, so I can only go by what's on their website, but they say you can have up to 5 "myname".dyndns.org addresses for free. If you register your own domain name ("myname".com) then you can use their DNS servers for a once off $30 setup fee, which doesn't sound unreasonable (and isn't necessary in this case anyway).

The point is, in many cases, a static IP address isn't all that critical.

I purchased a domain name from some crowd (cant remember their name) recommended by dyndns.org, set my ns records to be dyndns.org's servers, paid the 30 us yoyos for the registered account and now I can manage my own dns for my domain. I still only have a dynamic ip from errcom but I have a service running on linux to update my dyndns record every so often. Its quite good and if your ip changes, the ns records update pretty much asap.

Just to let everyone know.. the server is back running smoothly with a static server address now pointing to the IP..

As always IP/Password available from the #dub-hub channel on Quakenet IRC.. more members would be nice to add to our current 210GB!

the ip was changed a while back.. i think. but there isnt many people in there now.. only 3 when i just checked now..
