I am male btw , I am kinda getting hair on my face where i shouldnt be shaving (over the regular shaving area) .

Is there any way to get rid of it permanently ? or just for a week even and then i could do it again , cause i am sick of plucking it out .

Ive seen some stuff in the argos , electrolysis home kit ? says it takes 8 weeks though or something and there was this other thing as well with cotton pads or something - bleh

    Thanks.

Where exactly are you talking about on your face?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

Cheek bone maybe ? i dunno really , see u only shave up to an extent , no one shaves all the way up to their eyes .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35,524 ✭✭✭✭Gordon

Ah right, like from the corner of your eye to your ear kinda place?

    Have you tried wax? *shudder*
I don't have much experience in heavy facial hair, I do know that the more you shave the heavier it gets though. Maybe pulling the hair from the roots is better, yes.

Sorry, I don't really have any advice. Good luck with your findings.

No no its just at the check bone kinda . Waxing , bleh that would rip my skin apart .

Is it just at the top of your cheek and underneath/beside your eye?

If so, just shave it. It's not that unusual

yeah but if he it shaves it now, it'll grow back thicker and in a year it'll be quite noticeable as he'll be forced into shaving it more or less gach maidin. I say pluck or either buy some of that stuff for women to dye facial hair.

You can get it removed by laser (either for 5 years or permanently, afaik). I think some of the cosmetic surgery places do it in Dublin, I seem to remember hearing and ad on the radio for it a while ago. Could be very expensive though.

Try getting some of that "Nair" stuff, its like a cream thing that causes the folical to fall out, works for a couple of days to a week, depending on your hair growth.

Jesus Christ man, you should *never* *ever* shave moles! Thats just bloody stupid, it can stimulate the hair growth affect the mole and cause all sorts of dodgy consequences.

ive had hairy moles since i was very young, infact when i was younger the only place i had hairs on my face was my 2 moles, and it was very noticable..

Ive shaved them to this day and ive never ever had any problems..

"Apparently" it is a bad idea to pluck hairs from beauty spots/moles what ever you wanna call em, as it can increase the chances of it becoming Cancerous...

yes "apparently", but give me one example where the doctors have put on his post mortem "bertie here died from shaving his mole hairs, thus giving cancer"

As far as I can remember there is a place up at lower Baggot street that do laser treatment. I bloke I work with got it dont(dont think from there) on that area at the side of your neck to the under ear/chin area. Said its one of the best things he's ever done for him-self. Although you should look into it some as if things go wrong you dont want a laser near your eyes... even if it scares the cheek area. it may do some damage beond that.

I'm sick of hearing that "If you shave it, it'll grow back thicker and darker" - I reckon it's a myth. Did anyone ever prove it would happen?

Are you wet or dry shaving.

If you wet shave with a razor and cream then it stops the apical dominance afaik, like in trees, where the root become thick, and the hairs grow back faster/ are more visable.

I used to dry shave all the time, and instead of stubble, I had bum fluff, for ages.

so if you are wet shaving, try giving it up for a few weeks, and dry shave with an electronic razor, cutting the stem not too close to the skin, and then use the holey chad to shave the rest.

    and never shave moles!

It's a total myth. Cutting hair will not have any effect on the rate of growth of a hair or make it grow back any thicker or darker.

Hair is darker and coarser at it's root than at the tip and cutting it near the root makes it appear darker and thicker.

    .logic.

I assume it's ok to trim the moles, but I've always been warned like crazy from various people never to pull the hairs out of spots/moles because it can encourage cancer.

Luckily enough i've only got a basically invisible one only my right arm, but i'd say the temptation to pluck is pretty damn high when they're on your face.

I think id better go pay a visit to my Doctor, have one on my back which I have been plucking for a long long time :(

ive got a mole on my arm , ive seen a doctor alot of times and ive been told NEVER to pluck hair out of it . I dont think shaving matters But plucking CAN cause cancer .
to pull the hairs out of spots
? whats that got to do with anything , that doesnt cause cancer .

As for SHAVING CAUSES DARKER AND STRONGER HAIR GROWTH .
that is true NO myth . Jesus !

Remember the first time you shaved , the hair is really thin and doesnt grow back for ages and soon your shaving every day or every second day ? Yeah Myth it is ;)

Not to close to the skin ? wont you be left with a stuble then ?
    Whats chad ? razor ?

It's usual to get hair there. Just shave with the grain, then against the grain to get a good shave.

*shrug* never particularly bothered me before. Men are hairy. At least I don't have a hairy back. yet....

Since you first start shaving early in the course of puberty, your facial hair is going to get thicker and darker until the end of puberty no matter what you do. afaik it's also normal for hair outside the normal shaving area to get thicker as you grow older. Ever hear Billy Connelly talk about his ear hair?

If it bothered me that much I'd shave one arm and not the other to prove it's a myth, but I can't be arsed.

Go back and read logics' post about hair growth, those of you who are arguing about the thicker regrowth.

The reason it appears thicker and darker is because 1. you cut the hair, therefore you're feeling the thick cross-section. not the smooth tip that was there before. the reason its darker is because it is brand-spanking-new, the previous hair would have had some exposure to light and that would have bleached it lighter.
