    WTF

If anyone saw magnolia and can explain WTF it was all about i would much appreciate it.

When I saw it first after about 3 hours my brother turned to me and said this better start making sense right about now as we had been lead to believe by the opening 5mins the film was all about coincedences.
However instead of suddenly being tied together and making sense it began to rain frogs(once again WTF)

i was left really scratching my head and confused, over this one so if anyone could make sense out of it all for me i would be gratefull

Yeah i loved this film, espicially the Amie Mann soundtrack. But i do agree when it ended i was left wondering where this great concidence was gone. Apart from all the people in the film being contcted to each other there was no real concidence in the film.

People who say magnolia is about 'coincidence' are just giving it a lazy review and are mainly missing the point.

Magnolia is a film about fathers and how they fail their children. This is a theme that runs through all of PT Andersons films and is at the essence of Magnolia too.

All of the characters in the movie believe that the world they inhabit should work out exactly like tv/movies and cannot deal with their lives when things like love/relationships/death don't work like they do on tv. Check out the scene where Philip Seymour Hoffman says 'This is the scene of the movie where you help me out' to the person on the other end of the phone for confirmation.

For me the 'frog bit' was just a way of giving the characters the explosive 'hollywood ending' they demanded in order to facilitate their unrealistic expectations of life.

The frogs also tie the main story back to the three short 'coinincidence' stories at the start of the movies. This is imporant because whilst all 3 were urban myths the fact that so many viewers have by this stage accepted them as possible and true shows that we as a society are slowly getting drawn into this unreal world that the characters living.

None of us accepted the idea of frogs falling from the sky but we readily accept the idea that a man could be killed on at Street called GreenBerry Hill by three men called Green, Berry and Hill.

All I can say is that if all you take from this film after you've watched it is 'so the point was that all the characters were connected?' or 'why did frogs fall from the sky?' then you've just wasted 3 hours of your life.

that was not all i took from the film but i was unclear about a few things which i feel you did just clear up fairly well

though i must admit that b'cos of the first five mins i was lead to believe it was about coincedences and therefore while watching it was waiting for some sort of coincedence to tie all the characters together
