    Hi,

Can anyone advise me on the best way to un-install Suse linux from a second HD and remove the loader (lilo) from mbr?

PS. I'm not trying to start a Win vs. Linux debate, the drives are only 3GB each and I need the space.

    Rgds,
    Ed

There are many ways. This is one.
Boot up from a win98 boot disk, www.bootdisk.com I think has a copy.

To remove lilo from the mbr, run fdisk /mbr.

To remove the partitions, you may get away with using fdisk to just delete it, though I've had troubles with this. Usually I've ended up having to use linux fdisk to delete the linux partitions.

Then just format the drive with windows format.

This also gives you one of those rare chances to type:

    rm -rvf /

Where the obvious choice is to delete Windows.

    anyhoo.

You can run reasonably functional Linux off a floppy. Space is not a problem.

    GET Knoppix

Its the absolute best version of linux for on the fly use. It runs as a bootable CD and has KDE and hordes of software. It doesn't even need ANY HardDrive space. It uses your RAM... I used it for 4 month while I had no hard Drive...

Knoppix is very nice. (Based on Debian)

And gives you KDE3 no less. (Something which hasn't made it's way to Debian itself in full yet)

since no one has mentioned in windows fdisk /mbr will get read of lilo from the master boot record.

But will leave Linux space on his hard disk 'still' in use.

Best thing to do is to delete windows and use all his hard disk space for Linux.... that way... none of his hard disk space gets 'wasted'

    *muhahahahahaha

    since no one has mentioned

    Nah, Verb did.

If he removes Windows completely he'll also get to have a proper file system too.

    Thanks All for your replies,

Verbs advice worked fine, and I promise to put linux back on :)when I upgrade to a bigger HD. I may even try Knoppix.
