    Hi
I want to setup a wireless link from my phone socket to PC.
The distance is approx. 30ft, cable not an option as tiled floor
    Any ideas?
Is it possible to get wireless phones with a socket to plug into the hand set??

    Thanks
    dec

Great question Dec. I have almost exactly the same requirement. The phone line extension in my case is actually about 50 feet and trails across a room, along a hallway, up a stairs and across another room

Maybe not exactly what you are looking for but possibly another option...

    Yeah it is.
Dixons have (had) em.. I saw em in Belfast for around £40 - £50ukp I think..
It's a 2 small adapters with the option of connecting a phone to it.

Alternatively you could use Wireless LAN, (more flexible),
with a wireless Residential Gateway like the Dell Truemobile.
Saw a guy selling one here for 125 Euro.
You'll also need a WLAN Card for ur PC, but adding more PCs is easy. (not easy with the 1st option)

Eircom stores have a wireless phone socket thingy for about €99.

Don't know what the range is though ...

One For All have a wireless phoneline extender which is about €99.

    But
Works with PC modems giving a transmission speed of up to 33,000 bps & optimised for V34

    Excellent, thanks!

Can you post a link? Searching on Google yielded a blank :(

for a line extender i'd suggest investigating the equipment to see if it may degrade the data/bandwidth performance of the line, best to check with the vendor (you might not have luck getting a factual answer in-store)

looking into how much noise the kit might add to the signal, which may be fine for a voice call, but cause problems for a data call by limiting your connection speed

as Mean_Mudda said a WiFi residential gateway with a built-in modem (or serial port to connect a modem to) would also offer you a solution when used with a wifi card/adaper for the PC, (you'd need an ethernet card on the PC for config and installation of firmware updates for the gateway)

an alternative would be a Bluetooth PSTN Acces Point, but they are currently more expensive than WiFi, range is also a factor here as it's less than what WiFi can offer, you'd also need to ensure the bluetooth adapter chosen for the PC was interoperable with the access point

lastly, not an option for you but worth mentioning if any network people read this thread, i was looking at a powerline solution recently, where you can use the electricity circuit in the home as your network cable, but they are focused on ethernet applications

is there no physical alternative? running the cable outside the building or masking it using the the skirting board, or should i save that suggestion for the DIY board :)
