Im only a begginer to fishing but ive been out a few times now on lakes looking for pike with a fish-like spinner. I read in a magizine that my set up should do the business but ive had no luck. not only that but no bites or anything. If i didnt know better id think the lakes were empty . My last outing was corstown lake outside Drumconrath which is supposed to have a good stock. again no luck

I should probably try another rig .. with some dead bait but thought i should stick to basics to start. Do tackle shops sell dead bait for pike fishing.

Any ideas at all would be welcome. Ive been persisting at taking up fishing and enjoy getting out but i need a bite now and then.

Corstown i know it well. It's a great lake for a beginner. My advice is to buy as many spinners as you can, all differnet ones. Then while fishing rotate then. use one for ten minutes or so casting in different directions and then change spinner. Buy some floating spinners some sinkers varity is the key. I know the Drumconrath area well. Where do you buy your tackle? Give us a shout if you need any more advice. I don't fish for pike that offen but i've been fish since i was 4 and have lots of experiance.

There are some great pike in Corstown. Lets hope it gets the respect it deserves. It's an all-round good fishery with plenty of coarse fish.

Fish down near the pylons. At the end of the lake, farthest from the car park.

This time of year, deadbaiting would be a good alternative to spinning / wobbling. Its not a huge lake afterall.

Try using rubber lures and plugs / wooden stick baits as an alternative to spinners too.

Hi Niall. I've fish corstown plenty of times mainly for roach and bream, but i've never had much luck. Haven't fished it in years, prefering to go to Lough Derry or the ballyhoe lakes. Do oyu know how Corstown is fishin these days for Breama dn the likes. i know it's too early in the season, just wondering about last season.

    Hello Francie,

I havnt Fished Corstown in a while now, last decent session I can remember for obvious reasons was the infamous sept 11th. I will find out soon though how it is fishing. I had big bags of small fish on it, roach up to pound and a half, and Bream to 3lbs.

Generally a good days pleasure angling, fish along the sides from the stands and dont be afraid to try different baits.

Boilies etc, these come in 4mm and are soft, sizeable for a roach's mouth even!

Huge pike were transported to Corstown though, last 2-4 years i think.

Also try Brackan, loads of fish, hope the pike arent still turinig up dead and the bails of straw are hepling the lake.

ill get back with other news etc..
