    whats the problem??
We may be able to teach you!!!

Don't go into a shop, they'll more than garantee to rip you off.
Like ShayK said, tell us what the problem is and we'll show you how to do it yourself.

If you have to get someone else to do it, get a local professional luthier to do it, if there is any. I know a good one in Arklow but that's probably miles away from you.

If the nut is there but loose just tighten it!!

Go buy yourself one of these... http://www.stewmac.com/cgi-bin/hazel.cgi?action=SERVE&sku=1217&ITEM=catalog/sku.html

...then solder three wires, fasten the switch to the guitar tightly, and your done! There. That's not so hard is it. :)

    As for this:
while we on the subject i got an amp that i need to get fixed up,had a go at it already and nearly killed somebody so i think im gonna have a pro look at it

We generally recommend that you don't have electricity passing through during the repair!

Yes you would have to discharge the power supply capacitors. HINT:THE HUGE ONES!
This is done by shorting themwith a piece of wire, but don't try if you're not sure what you're doing.

Okay next problem is the bass guitar I just got for rather cheap, hooked it to an amp, worked , next day din't work, looked inside and the wiring is really screwed, i replaced one really dodgy wire that went to under the bit that the strings start at, but it still didn't work
I then checked all the components with a multimeter and all seems in order except a small capacitor looking like thingy which i think is the problem., any ideas where i might get one? or is that even the problem?

...dodgy wire that went to under the bit that the strings start at...

That really doesn't help. But anyway... try your luck at http://www.stewmac.com. They're the best guitar part supplier I know of! Although their pickup selection sucks
