    I can use

    netstat -a(wokrs on all Os`s)

to return open ports and protocols but need to know which program is using the port/proto

Any one know of any apps that do so?

Look on Download.com , there are usually programs up there with the ability to do this for you. Most are free to try but you have to purchase them after a while. You could try Essential NetTools 3.1, I think this might do it along with a few other networking things thrown in. If you are using it on the internet you could also try something like Sysgate firewall and look at the logs to see what program are using what ports. Again you can get a 30 day free trail off the sysgate website. You can also set it to only allow the programs that you want to have access to the internet while you are online. If you find anything better I would be intersted in knowing ??:)

foundstone.com has a tool called fport that tells you this.

There are a few programs that do this for NT/2K/XP, but I have only come across one that claimed to be able to do in on 9X systems. I think it was called TCPView, and I think it was the professional version ( non-free ) that gave the owning process in 9X.

    Zab.

    Oh, that's a point, fport doesn't work on 9x

I may be wrong but won't ZoneAlarm or Tiny personal firewall not detail the ports in use by each prog?

(i'm not at home so i can't check here)
