i've been racking my brain for something to do for my 21st at the end of next month, and i think i've come to a dead end.

so, this is where you guys come in! i'm looking for some really innovative ideas! has anyone been to any really "different" 21sts? or even if you've heard about someone else's that you though "wow! y'know, that's a really great idea, wish i'd thought of that!"

i want something a bit different from the norm- not your traditional booze-up with a few mates, and nothing as daunting as the whole function room/speeches/21 kisses/cake thing, somewhere in the middle.

ok, people! i'm counting on you...all ideas welcome!!

What about renting out that barge on the canal?

    Could be interesting?

Rent out a gaff on achill island or something for the w/e?

OK so it was a stag party...Thank you Mr C .. but it was brilliant craic... easily adapted for any occasion of debauchary and alcoholic mayhem.

Everyone buys a one day DART ticket and meets in either Howth or Bray.
You go to one pub, drink one pint then get on the DART.
Get off at the next stop, go to a pub, drink one pint, get back on the dart.
Then you go to the next stop, go to a pub, drink one pint then get back on the dart.
    Getting the idea???

You should only spend a specific amount of time in each pub. Half an hour should do it.

The general plan is to start at one end of the DART line, and drink yourself all the way to the other end. :D

Its OK to skip the occasional stop, but never more than one at a time. You'll need to do your research in deciding what pub youre going to, if any, at each stop, or if youre going to skip a particular stop, because the walk to the pub is longer than 5 mins.

You'll need to have a nominated timekeeper, preferably somebody that's not drinking, or somebody so stubborn that when they do get pished, they'll be damned if you spend more than the allocated time in each pub.

Its great craic, its cheap, (€6.50 for a one day ticket?), and it should be quite memorable.

I'm going to assume you skipped Howth Junction and Kilbarrack?
Sounds like a good idea though. Might do that this weekend just for the laugh!

There's a pub in my town that has a hugh back garden, my father borrowed a dance floor (yet to return) and we put it in the middle of the garden and a a great night outdoors, hired a band and had minimal lighting, no mess, no fuss.
was the middle of summer of course - which helped.

Better still, my friends bought me a trip to amsterdam for my 21st, so can't really decide which was better - yeah right - amsterdam was the coolest thing i have ever done.
Think you should get your closest friends and head to amsterdam, you'll never forget it.

    Ah memories,

great suggestions lads, keep em coming! i particularly like the one about the barge, though i have a funny feeling that'd be booked up months in advance! still, it's worth a shot!

another good idea was the DART pub crawl, but one of my mates already had that idea, except on a bus instead!

    anyhoo, cheers fro the ideas

might be a bit far fetched, but i hear Edinburgh is great for 21st's stag/hen nights etc.

Funnily one of the best 21st's I've been at was actually in the guy in questiuons parents house. They let him invite all his friends over and did up a load of food. They were also very generous and bought a huge load of beer at a local offie.

Basically everyone had great craic at the party, more than enough drink and some great food.

I made a giant chicken sandwich from leftovers at about 7am and had it for breakfast with a bottle of beer before I headed home ;)

My sister had a bouncy castle in our back garden for her 21st,

Also it's probably really expensive but I think you can actually rent the actual Dart itself for a party

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

the best 21St present I've heard off (I know its off topic) was one a mate told me about.

The guys got a picture of the lad when he was 12-16, enlarged it into sections, and posted it on the billboard in rathmines saying "Its [Insert name here]'s birthday, Gwan my son" or something to that effect.
Every1 say the poster or his 21St, and I think they all bought him drinks, he was just amazed.
Brilliant idea. if you can afford it.

    the dart idea sounds fun!

Best party I was at was a "pop/rock star fancy dress".
They had a karaoke machine set up (and a camcorder as I later found out) and everyone HAD to sing a song by whoever they came dressed as. It was set up with lots of jelly shots and strong cheap drink like that, so as people got drunker, they were more willing to perform.

All you need is a decent sized room, rent the karaoke machine and camcorder and splash out on some cheap vodka
