just off the phone to ntl and they're saying that there's a problem with the broomhill (broomhill road, i presume) router, resulting in a loss of service. apparently i'm the fourth person today on broomhill to call about this and they're asking anyone else with the same problem to give a ring (1800 924 424)

...and i was only on hold for 30 seconds. that's pretty damn good

woohoo, it's working! :D the ip addresses that i was getting were within a range specifically for new users who hadn't registered yet, so the only site i could reach was autoreg (altho someone still managed to send me a trojan horse). but they re-registered my modem and that was it then... i had forgotten just how slow 56k is until now!
