    I am just wondering what eircoms policy on sharing your dsl connection is. I have their enhanced service with aparently no download/upload cap.
    I live in a rather large estate with probably about 250 houses. If somebody was to purchase a router and enough cable to wire up to my connection i would have no problem offering them as much bandwidth whenever they want it.
    Am i free to do this ?? I live in d16.
    Opinions please ???

    I would interpret Clause 6.8 of their terms and conditions as a "no", but whether or not they'd know or care is a different story.
    6.8 The Facility is provided solely for the Customer's own use and the Customer shall not resell or attempt to resell the Facility (or any part thereof) to any third party.

    I wouldn't charge people. I'd do it for free. If they bought the router + cat5 cable.

    yeah, but "The Facility is provided solely for the Customer's own use" would cover that too (at least that's how I'd interpret it).. so terms pretty much say you can't but whether eircon could be bothered following it up especially now that they read you're not charging for it ;) ...

    you have the enhanced service, not the ordinary residential pleb one. This has very different terms and conditions.

    So, as the irishwan interprets it, you are allowed pay for this service on behalf of an orginasation. This orginastion could be 'chief club', and could be free membership. It doesn't even have to be on the same premises. As long as you are only sharing this connect with 'chief club' you're ok. Of course, we could be wrong, but there's been a million discusions on this on www.irishwan.org/board and people seem to have come to a sensible consensus.

    rofl,
    Chief club, membership free,
    Proof of membership->confirmation email.
    Entitlements-> unlimited bandwidth.
    Why isnt there more people like me out there.

    My parents live in D16, can I nominate them for membership in the chief club? Note: they would only be requiring bandwidth round christmas time and some sundays after tea-time. Oh yeah and maybe if I need to go home to pick up important mail (oh sh*t i think I gave the game away!).

    ;) :rolleyes: :D

    get a few wireless antennas for the rooftops. Even indoor access points & interfaces can go a long way and through a wall or two.

    First rule of Chief Club: DONT TALK ABOUT CHIEF CLUB!

    shesh chief, thats what you always told us.

    Wireless is indeed probably a better option than the cat5.
