I used to cough up tar, then i switched to Marlboro, now, I cough up blood.

so, theres 11mg of tar, .8mg of nicotine and 11mg of carbon monoxide in marlboro reds, what's your brand, and what brand have you found that gives the best nicotine to tar ratio and dosent taste like ****.

please dont post "you smoke and you will die because of such and such fact" replys, its a drug and i'm addicted, so leave me alone.

-Tar intake also depends how you smoke.

Don't know if this counts as one of those stupid replys, but nicotine patches give you the nicotine without tar and carbon monoxide.

As for being addicted, thats not an excuse. Nicotine only lasts 3 days in your system. After that its only the holding it in your hand that you miss...

i dont cough it up alot, but yeah, i used to smoke benson, but then after all you could get was Gold and not Special Filter (gold taste like your smoking a shoe) i changed to marlboro.
when i smoked benson i coughed up tar every now and again, then the other day, i coughed up a globule (I think that word suits it pretty good) of blood =/

I'm not a smoker, but as far as I'm aware, one brand/strength is pretty much as bad as the other. The stronger types of cigarettes may have less chemical additives, while the weaker, low tar, low nicotine cigarettes have chemicals added that do the same job as the stronger types - as far as 'brand loyalty' (i.e. addiction) goes.

Either way, cigarettes are damaging - and, ironically, sometimes the lighter brands are more damaging.

But seriously, can I ask an honest question: why do people continue to smoke, even though they know it's unhealthy, dangerous and pointless (dietetically and socially)? Smoking joints is one thing - I can understand that - but cigarettes? Asnwering "because it's addictive" isn't an answer. Please to explain....

Ah jeez sol ffs - you coughed up a glob of blood? Congealed blood? Cool, your lungs are starting to break down! Hey, next you'll be coughing up bits of your lung. My sister's friend did that once - coughed up a piece of his lung the size of a kidney bean - she hasn't heard from him in some time.

I'm amazed you want to keep smoking even though your lungs are falling apart!

Dadakopf: people smoke because they are addicted in some shape or form. They may not be technically addicted physically but they sure are mentally. There are other reasons of course - just like people smoke dope, just like people drink coke. I love the smell of petrol for example. I guess smoking for me is like a pacifier, it calms me when too excited and it excites me when I am too calm.

This is almost a month since I have smoked for 13 ish years *thrum thrum*

B&H Gold & BH special Filter, exzact same smokes different name change.
    reason being?
They're wanted to change the look of their smoke box a little for the past while, it would cost them too much to do it. so they decieded they might aswell do it while they have to re design the smoke box for the new warnings on them.

I'll have to disagree lenny, Gold and Special Filter do not taste the same.

I smoke because of a relaxation thing, granted its the want of nicotine that causes most of my stress, but i still love the feeling of that first inhalation in the morning. I'm looking forward to a tracheotomy so i can smoke two at once! I'm going to get twenty tracheotomies, all around my neck! I will be tracheotomy-man!

I'm not a smoker but I'd assume once the nicotine leaves the body the body's need for nicotine goes way up?

Body produces nicotine naturally..... When you start to smoke your body has a source of nicotine and gets lazy (stops making nicotine).... After you stop smoking for a while your body needs nicotine and hasn't got an external source so it gets up off it's hole and starts making it again.

i asked myself the same question when i was smoking. in the end it kind of made sense and i gave up. a big problem was that i'd try giving up and then id just get drunk and think' fukkit. im drunk now and i dont care what theyre doing to me'. but im off them for 2 months now. *yay*. i gave up coz i was afraid they'd have a bad affect on my singing voice. i suspect if i couldnt sing i'd still be a smoker.

I used to smoke Marlboro red when I was much younger then moved onto Silk Cut, Rubias or MS Mild (depending on the country I was in) as they were milder. Still, Marlboro red was the nicest.

I don't smoke anymore, but admittedly still have the odd cigar.

Yes in about 72 hours or so, but the psycological addiction is an entirly different matter, your talking at the minimum 10 weeks to break the habit from what ive read.

Its not the nicotine that the problem but the habit of enjoying a smoke, and bad and all as smoking is for those who dont smoke and cant understand it is quite enjoyable.

s0l - couging blood is serious **** man go see a doc.

    hypnosis will break ur smoking..
    did for my old man
he smoked like 20 something years..
    so it can be done

ive got statistics to back it up with..

    ;-)
Hypnosis is now statistically the most effective way to give up smoking. Stop Smoking for Good! helps you stop smoking the easy way, leaving you healthier, calmer and happier. The trance section can effectively retrain your unconscious mind to stop you smoking forever.

I have smoked since i was about 15. I am now 22. Before christmas I was admitted to hospital with a lung problem (not smoking related). I spent 4 weeks in a respiratory ward and some of the things i saw in there were shocking. Im talking neck tumors the size of tennis balls.
As a result i have not smoked since november. I do not miss them in the slightest and have no craving for them. I cant believe how stupid i was for years paying for something that was doing for me nothing but harm.

Forget paul mc kenna dot com, spend a day in a respiratory ward in any of the major hospitals and recsonsider your position.

tbh, i'm yet to cough up blood, but everyone who see's me seems to say that marlboro red make you cough up blood =/
so it kind of worried me, yes smoking is stupid, but i couldnt be bothered to work up the will power to quit, meh.

    s0l? You're 15/16 right?

If you're coughing up blood/tar at that age then there is something seriously wrong with your lungs.

Trust me, my lungs got ****ed up when i was younger and i used to cough up the lining of them (kinda gross) for over a year.

Could be something completely unrelated to smoking, serious, get it checked out.

Serious lung problems come to mind, such as tb. Thats the only illness i can think of where you cough up blood.
Collect a sample of the bloody mass and take it to your local hospital. They will be able to tell you whats wrong.

You might want to look at this... http://www.thetruth.com/

The Blood and you're still smoking?

Hypnotism?? rubbish, waste of time and money. My sis went to one of these down in Offaly or Meath. Cant remember the name of the place but it was in a tiny little village. 120 yoyo's and she was smoking again in no time. Coulda just been some muppet too lazy to get a real job tho...

I think the nicotine is a relatively small player in this. Any time I decided to give up I lasted like four hours and just said fukc it. No willpower at all but I'm pretty sure the nicotine from my last smoke was still shootin around my veins. I just enjoy my smokes and thats all there is to it. If I stopped enjoying them I could prolly quit staright off, nicotine or no nicotine. Its a mental addiction more than anything.
when i smoked benson i coughed up tar every now and again, then the other day, i coughed up a globule (I think that word suits it pretty good) of blood

That would however, without doubt make me quit. Seek help.

Hypnotism, patches, Alan Carr books/clinics, whatever. Whatever benifit any of those give you is minimal. Ultimately it comes down to willpower - none of those aforementioned gimicks alone have ever made anyone quit.

He began this thread by saying that he had coughed up blood, then later admitted he hadn't.

Sounds like an adolecent attention seeker, methinks.
