I have just been installed the Esat ADSL Modem Ericsson HM230dp with the 512K line. Does anyone know how to get into the web config of the modem? Just for turning on the NAT and checking the firewall settings. Thanks

Were you there when the dsl connection was installed?
Do you know if it was installed with a http interface? Or perhaps with a serial connection and terminal emulation?

Anyone else got experience of this?
I am pretty sure that these Ericsson HM230dp boxes supplied by Esat have got NAT disabled and the use of a seperate router is required, which is how I did it.

I was there but the router must have been configured before hand as it was just plug into the network card, connect the phone line and input the IP! I'll contect Esat and see what they say.

I'm curious about this as I'm scheduled to get the same service installed in the next few weeks. If I remember correctly the Ericsson modem can be configured either as a bridge or as a router (with NAT). If it's configured as a bridge then you can't get at the web interface as the modem doesn't have an IP address. Sounds like the ESAT tech configured it as a bridge??. In which case the solution for NAT is your own router (as arlbb did).

Can someone also confirm that they use PPPoA ? I've seen it mentioned elsewhere but I just want to be sure.

Yes - EsatBT 512k DSL does use PPPoA ( see this thread )
Anyone got any software to configure the HM230dp? I had a google and found this and this.
Mine arrived pre-configured with no software or manuals.

If its bridging, I would try adding an alias on my external interface:

    ifconfig <exif> <new-ip> netmask 255.255.255.0 alias

    where new-ip is either 192.168.{0,1,100}.66.
You could then try talking to 192.168.{0,1,100}.1 or 100.

Surfboard cable modems can be access'ed this way.

If its not bridging, just point a browser to your dhcpd's IP address. Read /var/log/ on *nix or winipcfg etc to get this address. Also, when your talking to it, you might wanna get a snmp client to enumerate more of its capabilities.
