    Hi,
    i have a dell deminsion 4300 comp,
    the motherboard is damaged,
    I am wondering what i can do...ie
Can i ring dell and order the exact same motherboard from them?
I know there is a standard size to motherboards, but do dell
build to these?i.e. can i go off and buy a different motherboard and will it fit in the box?

    Any other ideas?

    Thanks,
    toil

    I got a p4 1.5ghz - think it is socket 478 (says mpga478B on motherboard)..
The mother board is a intel 845 chipset.

Was lookin at this motherboard 'Asus P4B Mainboard for S478/P-4
    I845, ATA/100, ATX Retail, SD-Ram'.

My only prob is that i think this board is bigger and might
not fit in the dell box?
    Is this the case?

    thanks,

The computer just has a damaged motherboard and it needs to be replaced.

The powersupply is fine - normal ATX connection.

    No warranty on computer.

    Thanks for help,
i will just measure the inside of the box where MB can fit in(groves)(already measure dell mother board which is of different size to regular ATX motherboard) and compare to that motherboard.

All i need to know is can a dell dimension 4300 box fit a ATX motherboard?!!?

Thanks for that link, found some good information at the dell forums.

Wrong, the PSU maybe ATX but the connection has a different pin layout. If you plug a dell PSU dirrectly into a non dell motherboard there's a good chance you'll fry it! It can be rewired though, you'll need to search the interweb thing to find out how though....

The good new about the Dell is

    Your Processor can be transferred
    Memory
    Floppy
    Harddrive

(maybe the PSU) but it may need drilling.

sound/video/network card/modem if NOT built onto the motherboard.

    cables for the above

Sould leave ya looking for a new case and motherboard only of you are lucky. Less than 200 yoyos which is less than Dell would charge anyway.

    Ok,
well it looks like the 4300's con with the standard powersupply pinout connection....at least i think i read that some where :-)

I am just gonna buy and box + motherboard.

Is this what you might be selling? :-)

    thanks for all the replies....
